SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The No. 4-ranked Bloomsburg field hockey team dropped its first game of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) competition to No. 1-ranked Shippensburg, 3-0, at Robb Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon.

The game opened with a defensive showing from Bloomsburg (8-2, 0-1 PSAC) and Shippensburg (7-0, 1-0), with the first shot coming nearly halfway through the first quarter.
Aydan McFarland (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area) recorded the game's first shot on a penalty corner which was blocked by the Raiders. The first quarter saw just three total shots.

Shippensburg's Nya Gilchrist got SU on the board early in the second frame tapping in a feed from Anne Gardner to break the scoring open. Bloomsburg entered the second half down 1-0, thwarting nine shot attempts from the Raiders.
Meg Barnard (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) recorded a defensive save in the final moments of the half.

The third quarter saw
Jackie Nevel (Nescopeck, Pa./Berwick Area) post six saves throughout the frame before Shippensburg found the back of the net with 19 seconds left. The Huskies registered four shot attempts in the quarter.

Shippensburg's Yasmin De Meyer extended the Raiders' lead to 3-0, depositing the ball into the top shelf. Despite four shot attempts in the final three minutes, Bloomsburg couldn't find the back of the net.

McFarland finished the contest with seven shots while Nevel posted 11 saves.

Bloomsburg is back in action on Tuesday, October 1 as it hosts No. 5 West Chester at 4 p.m.
