#8 Field Hockey Shuts Out St. Thomas Aquinas, 5-0

SPARKILL, N.Y. – The No.8-ranked Bloomsburg field hockey team posted its first shutout of the season, defeating St. Thomas Aquinas 5-0 on Saturday afternoon at Spartan Field.
 
Bloomsburg (2-0) went on the offensive early as Bella Culp (Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin) recorded the first shot of the game just 36 seconds in.
 
The 2023 PSAC Freshman of the Year, Genna Bush (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs), netted her first of the season at the 5:23-minute mark. Bush scored with help from Kara Koch (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area).
 
St. Thomas Aquinas (0-1) managed to keep the maroon and gold off the board for the remainder of the first half, as the Huskies led 1-0 after 30 minutes of action.
 
Bloomsburg came out hot in the second half as Koch found Bush for the second time to extend the lead to 2-0 just 63 seconds in. Jordan Bond (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) then made it 3-0 halfway through the third quarter.
 
The Huskies posted another quick goal at the beginning of the fourth quarter, as Kate Ferguson (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township) made it 4-0 with her first career goal.
 
Aydan McFarland (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area) put the game away three minutes later, recording her fourth goal of the season.
 
Jackie Nevel (Nescopeck, Pa./Berwick Area) picked up the shutout victory, stopping the Spartans' only shot on goal in the fourth quarter.
 
Bloomsburg finished with a 16-2 advantage in shots and a 7-1 advantage in shots on goal.
 
The Huskies will face Franklin Pierce on Sunday, September 8 as they host the Ravens at 12 p.m. at Steph Pettit Stadium.
