No. 6 Field Hockey Outlasts Mansfield, 1-0; Hartranft Earns 200th Win

Head Coach Nikki Hartranft picked her 200th career head coaching victory

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The No. 6-ranked Bloomsburg field hockey team outlasted Mansfield, 1-0, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at Steph Pettit Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Head coach Nikki Hartranft earned her 200th head-coaching victory as Bloomsburg (10-0, 2-0 PSAC) posted its eighth shutout of the season. Hartranft has amassed 178 wins with the Huskies since 2010 in addition to 22 wins as Alvernia's head coach.

Neither Bloomsburg nor Mansfield (3-6, 0-2) gained an advantage in the beginning of the first quarter as the two sides held each other without a shot in the first seven minutes.

Genna Bush (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) found the back of the net at the halfway mark of the quarter, depositing a fourth chance shot into the back of the net. The goal was set up by a scrum in front of the net on the game's first shot from Jessica Serafin (Worcester, Pa./Methacton) that was blocked. Bush then saw her first two attempted get blocked then saved before finally burying the game-winner on her third shot.

The maroon and gold continued to pressure the Mountaineers throughout the game, with its best chance to extend the lead coming early in the second quarter. A shot from Sophie Lawler (Newport, Pa./Newport) made its way past Mansfield goalkeeper Lydia Miller before Olivia Kline pulled the ball of the line to keep the score at 1-0.

Bloomsburg recorded nine shots in the second half but were unable to find the back of the net again. Mansfield put pressure on the Huskies late, but the maroon and gold defense stood tall to secure the victory.

The Huskies tallied 20 shots and eight shots on goal in the game while Mansfield notched just one shot in the game.

Bloomsburg concluded its five-game homestand with a perfect 5-0 record while outscoring its opponents 27-3.
