SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The sixth-ranked Bloomsburg Huskies field hockey team continued its strong run through conference play with a commanding 5–1 road win over Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
The Huskies (11–1, 3–1 PSAC) struck early and never trailed, scoring in every quarter to secure their third conference win of the season.
Senior forward Genna Bush (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a deflection in front of the cage off a pass from Sophie Lawler (Newport, Pa./Newport), setting the tone for a dominant offensive performance. Bloomsburg doubled its lead midway through the second quarter when Jessica Serafin (Worcester, Pa./Methacton) finished a 2-on-1 breakaway off a feed from Jordan Bond (Dallas, Pa./Dallas).
Bush added her second goal of the day late in the first half, driving a shot through traffic from the deep right side to give Bloomsburg a 3–0 advantage at the break. The Huskies extended their lead in the third quarter as Raegan Iasiello (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) ripped in a long shot off a penalty corner for her third goal of the year.
Slippery Rock got on the board in the 58th minute, but Serafin answered less than a minute later with her second of the afternoon — again set up by Bond — to put an exclamation point on the 5–1 win.
Bush led all players with six shots and two goals, while Serafin recorded a brace of her own. Bond tallied two assists, and goalkeeper Maura Greek (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) anchored the defense with six saves, including five in the fourth quarter to fend off a late surge by The Rock.
Both teams finished with eight penalty corners, but the Huskies converted their opportunities efficiently, outshooting Slippery Rock 14–13 overall and 9–8 on goal.
Bloomsburg returns to action on Tuesday when the Huskies host #4 East Stroudsburg in a key PSAC match up. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. at Steph Pettit Stadium.
