No. 6 Field Hockey Drops Double Overtime Bout to No. 4 East Stroudsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The No. 6-ranked Bloomsburg field hockey team fell in double overtime to No. 4 East Stroudsburg in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest at Steph Pettit Stadium on Tuesday night.

Bloomsburg (11-2, 3-2 PSAC) notched a pair of goals in the second half while battling back-and-forth with East Stroudsburg (12-2, 3-2).

The Huskies went on the offensive early, drawing a corner just 23 seconds in to the game. On the corner, Raegan Iasiello (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) tallied the first shot of the game but it was blocked by the Warriors. ESU responded with two shot attempts of its own but each was blocked by Bloomsburg.

Genna Bush (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) notched the first quality chance of the game just under five minutes into the game as a shot attempt went off the right post and out of play.

East Stroudsburg broke the dead lock near the end of the quarter on a penalty corner as Bella Viruet deflected a shot from Alex Eagles and into the back of the cage.

The second quarter proved to be a defensive clinic with neither side recording a shot.

Maura Greek (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) stood tall in net to start the second half, recording three saves in the span of two and a half minutes. Later in the frame, Sophie Lawler (Newport, Pa./Newport) found the back of the net to tie the games on an assist from Alexandra Bliss (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area).

Down a player early in the fourth quarter, Lexy Freed (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) gave the Huskies a lead with her third of the season.

East Stroudsburg's Piper Patrick tied the contest with under five minutes to play to send the game into overtime.

In overtime, Greek turned aside a pair of shots from the Warriors to keep the score even and forced double overtime. ESU finally managed to beat Greek in the second overtime period, with a deflection in front from Maddie Moline.

Bloomsburg returns to action on Saturday, October 18 as they host Shippensburg at 11 a.m.
