Volleyball Falls in Straight Sets to Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Bloomsburg volleyball team fell to Lock Haven, 3-0, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup inside the Thomas Field House on Tuesday night.

Allison Saalfrank (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) led the team in kills with eight while Marlee Johnson (Newville, Pa./Big Spring) followed closely behind with seven. Erin Clark (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert) posted a team-high 15 assists.

Lock Haven (5-13, 3-3 PSAC East) took the momentum early in the match, jumping out to a 10-2 lead over Bloomsburg (7-11, 0-6). Despite a few short runs from the Huskies, the Bald Eagles were able to hold onto its early eight-point lead to take the first set, 25-17. Sophie Wales (Port Matilda, Pa./State College) tallied three kills in the frame while the team combined for a trio of aces.

The second set started in similar fashion to the first as the home team went on a 6-1 run to start the set. The maroon and gold slowly chipped away at the lead before a four-point run gave the Huskies their first lead of the night. The two sides continued to exchange the lead throughout the set before a late run saw the Bald Eagles close out the set, 25-21.

Lock Haven kept control of the tempo in the third as another early run gave the home team a cushion. Bloomsburg pulled within three before a 5-0 run moved the advantage to 13-5. The Huskies had several three-point runs in the set, however Lock Haven responded each time with its own run to keep Bloomsburg at bay. The Bald Eagles closed out the third set, 25-16, with a kill.

Lock Haven is back in action on Friday, October 17 as they take on Kutztown at 6 p.m. on Alumni Appreciation Night.
