BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg women's volleyball team was bested in straight sets by Kutztown in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference matchup inside the Nelson Field House on Friday night.
 
Bloomsburg (7-12, 0-7 PSAC East) tallied 42 kills in the contest while Kutztown (10-9, 2-3) ended the night with 44. The Huskies' all-time leader in kills, 
Marlee Johnson (Newville, Pa./Big Spring), led the match with 17 kills and no errors on 34 attack attempts. The seniors' 17 kills match the program-record for most kills in a three-set match.
 
Erin Clark (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert) set a program-record as well with 38 assists, the most in a three-set match for the maroon and gold.
 
Kutztown found its stride early in the contest, jumping ahead to an early 4-1 lead. The two sides then went point-for-point to move the score to 8-6. The Huskies and the Golden Bears continued to go back-and-forth over much of the set before a 5-2 run from the maroon and gold moved them within one at 16-15. After more exchanges, a four-point run from KU closed out the set, 25-20.
 
Bloomsburg and Kutztown battled closely to an 8-5 Golden Bears' lead before an 8-1 run swung the momentum in the Huskies favor and gave the home side a 13-9 advantage. The run saw a pair of kills from Johnson and an ace from 
Allison Saalfrank (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) while capitalizing on errors from Kutztown. Down 18-12, The Golden Bears began to mount a comeback, beginning with a four-point run to move within two. After a back-and-forth moved the score to 20-17, Kutztown grabbed hold of the momentum with an 8-1 run that saw five kills and a pair of aces to take the set, 25-21.  
 
The third set saw Bloomsburg jump take the early 4-1 lead before KU responded with two kills and two aces to gain a 5-4 lead. The two sides continued to fight tooth and nail throughout the set, with Kutztown eventually taking a 15-11 lead. A pair of kills from Johnson and an ace from Wales tied the set a 15-15. A three-point Kutztown run in the midst of a points exchange saw the Golden Bears take a 21-18 lead. Kills from Wales and Saalfrank allowed the Huskies to level the score at 21-21 before KU once again pulled ahead. With the score at 24-21 in favor of the visitors, the maroon and gold brought the set within one. It was too little too late for Bloomsburg as a kill from Paige Skinner for Kutztown won the set, 25-23.
 
The Huskies are right back inside the Nelson Field House as they host East Stroudsburg at 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 18.
