No. 5 Field Hockey Falls to No. 6 West Chester, 2-0, on the Road

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The No. 5-ranked Bloomsburg field hockey team fell on the road to No. 6 West Chester in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest at the Vonnie Gros Field on Wednesday night.

Bloomsburg (12-3, 4-3 PSAC) registered 11 shots throughout the contest while outshooting West Chester (10-4, 5-2) in the final frame, 6-4.

The first quarter proved to be a defensive showcase, with the Golden Rams amassing the only two shots in the frame. The lone shot on goal in the first quarter came from West Chester's Veerle Hersman, which was turned aside by Maura Greek (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley).

On a penalty corner midway through the second quarter, a shot from Hersman made its way on target before deflecting off a Bloomsburg defender and into the net to break the deadlock.

West Chester continued to apply the pressure early in the second half, recording three shots in the first 90 seconds.

The Huskies then went on the offensive, stringing together four shots in just over two minutes. The best chance for the maroon and gold came on a corner attempt when a deflected shot in front from Alyxandra Flick (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) was saved by the Golden Rams' Audra Szymborski.

After holding off the Bloomsburg attack, West Chester drove down the field and earned a penalty corner. On the ensuing corner, a shot from Gianna Funari was saved by Greek before the rebound wound up on the stick of Hersman for her second of the game.

Bloomsburg recorded six shots in the fourth quarter but were unable to find the back of the net. The Huskies best look came on a penalty corner when a shot from Raegan Iasiello (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) was deflected in front of the net before being swatted out of the air by Sofia Brown.

West Chester outshot Bloomsburg 17-11 in the contest and finished with an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal.

The Huskies return to the field on Saturday, October 25 as they head to IUP for its final road contest of the regular season at 7 p.m.
