Volleyball Downed in Straight Sets by Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Bloomsburg volleyball team fell on the road to Kutztown, 3-0, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup inside Keystone Arena on Friday night.

Marlee Johnson (Newville, Pa./Big Spring) led the team with ten kills, notching her fifth-straight game with double-digit kills. Katie Kuehl (Aston, Pa./Archmere Academy (Del.)) followed closely behind with eight kills while Lydia Worthing (Tyrone, Pa./Bellwood Antis) tallied four total blocks in her return to competition. Erin Clark (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert) and Jessica Rimbo (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) combined for 24 assists.

Kutztown (11-12, 3-6 PSAC) jumped ahead early to an early 6-3 lead over Bloomsburg (8-15, 0-9) before recording five straight points to take an 11-3 lead. The Huskies slowly worked its way back to a 15-12 deficit before the Golden Bears pulled yet again on a six-point run. A three-point run from Bloomsburg would not be enough as Kutztown took set one, 25-18.

The second set saw KU keep hold of the momentum to take a 5-0 lead. The maroon and gold fought back-and-forth to keep within five before the home side pulled away further on a four-point swing. An 8-2 run later in the set helped the Huskies close the gap, but it was too little too late as Kutztown took the second set, 25-20.

Bloomsburg started the third set with a 3-1 led, however the Golden Bears regained the lead on a five-point run. Three straight points for the Huskies leveled the score as the two sides then went back-and-forth to an eventually 16-13 lead for Kutztown. KU closed out the match with a 9-1 run, taking the final set 25-14.

The Huskies return to the court on Saturday, November 1 as they take on East Stroudsburg inside Koehler Fieldhouse.
