BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The No. 6-ranked Bloomsburg field hockey team celebrated Senior Day in style as it punched its ticket to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament with 2-1 victory over Millersville on Saturday afternoon.
Â
Alyxandra Flick (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) and
Kendall Iasiello (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) found the back of the net for Bloomsburg (13-4, 5-4 PSAC) as
Maura Greek (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) posted four saves against Millersville (7-11, 3-6).
Â
The first quarter saw neither side register a shot on goal, with all three shot attempts getting blocked. Flick recorded the first shot of the game six minutes in before Bush's shot attempt got blocked two minutes later. The Huskies blocked the Marauders first shot attempt later in the frame on a penalty corner.
Â
Bloomsburg withstood offensive pressure from Millersville in the second quarter as Greek tallied three saves in the frame. Emma Ruley challenged Greek seven minutes into the frame as the senior kicked aside a shot from the right side. The Garnet Valley native turned aside two more shots later in the quarter to keep the game scoreless going into halftime.
Â
Flick broke the deadlock early into the second half as
Genna Bush (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) fired a pass into the shooting circle, finding Flick alone in front. The junior midfielder got the one-timer past the MU netminder to bury her fourth of the year.
Â
Kendall Iasiello (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) doubled the Huskies' lead eight minutes later, sneaking a turn-around shot through the defense and inside the left post for her third goal of the season.
Â
Millerville did not take long to responded as Erin Esterhuizen brought the visitors back within one just 98 seconds later.
Â
Faith Jampo (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) kept the maroon and gold in the lead early in the fourth quarter, pulling a shot from Esterhuizen off the line just 35 seconds into the frame. Midway through the quarter, Sarah Crysler turned away back-to-back shots to keep the game within reach.
Â
The Huskies held off the offensive charge from Millersville, allowing just one shot in the final 14 minutes of play to hold on for the win.
Â
Bloomsburg secured the sixth spot in the PSAC tournament with the win and will travel to No. 3 Shippensburg for the first round of the conference championships on Tuesday, November 4 at 4 p.m.
