Volleyball Sweeps West Chester in Straight Sets at Nelson Field House

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg volleyball team turned in one of its strongest performances of the season Friday evening, sweeping West Chester 3–0 inside Nelson Field House. The Huskies controlled the match from start to finish, taking the sets 25-21, 25-23, and 25-19.

Bloomsburg opened the night with a commanding first set, racing out to an early 8-2 lead behind a six-point surge fueled by clean distribution from setter Erin Clark (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert). During the run, Clark connected for kills with Lydia Worthing (Tyrone, Pa./Bellwood Antis) and Katie Kuehl (Aston, Pa./Archmere Academy (Del.)), while Marlee Johnson (Newville, Pa./Big Spring) powered home multiple swings to keep the Huskies in control. West Chester attempted to climb back, closing to within three late, but Bloomsburg held firm and secured the set when Johnson and Worthing teamed up on a block at the right pin to put the Huskies ahead 1-0.

The second set featured long rallies and momentum swings on both sides. After an opening West Chester ace, Johnson answered with a kill, and the Huskies again built a 6-2 advantage as Clark continued to drive the offense with quick, decisive sets to Worthing and Kuehl. The Golden Rams used a mid-set push to tie the frame at 16-16 and again at 20-20, but Bloomsburg responded with key plays in the final points. Sophie Wales (Port Matilda, Pa./State College) delivered a timely kill from the left side, and Johnson followed with another put-away to regain a 22-21 lead. Allison Saalfrank (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) then stepped to the line and delivered a crucial service ace that pushed the Huskies to set point. Wales sealed the frame moments later with a kill to lift Bloomsburg to a 2-0 match lead.

Bloomsburg closed out the match with its most dominant stretch of the evening in the third set. After edging ahead 6-5 in the early going, the Huskies broke the set open with a commanding 9-0 run that featured a Worthing kill, two service aces from Wales, and multiple pressured West Chester errors created by Bloomsburg's net presence. The surge gave the Huskies a 16-10 cushion. West Chester briefly trimmed the margin behind a series of kills from Zoe Haines, but the Huskies answered again through Johnson and Kuehl to restore the advantage and maintain control down the stretch. With the match on the line, Kuehl added another kill off a Clark assist before Jessica Rimbo (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) delivered a match-ending service ace to close out the sweep, 25-19.

Johnson led a balanced Bloomsburg attack, while Kuehl and Worthing added key scoring stretches throughout the night. Clark directed the offense with poise, and libero Hannah Robson (Charlotte, N.C./Arborbrook) anchored the defense with strong passing and timely digs.

Johnson finished the day with 15 kills and a .387 hitting percentage while Kuehl added 10 kills. Saalfrank led the match with 13 digs and Robson chipped in nine. Rimbo handed out 19 assists and Clark finished the day with 15.

As a team, the Huskies hit .275 for the match with 44 total kills and held West Chester to a .090 hitting day with 30 kills and 21 errors.

The Huskies return to action for the final time in 2025 tomorrow when they host Millersville in their Seniod Day match. Action gets underway at 5:00 p.m. from the Nelson Field House gym.
