Box Score JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Bloomsburg women's basketball team defeated the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown 68-62 in their second bout in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
Bloomsburg (5-2) shot 43.1% (22-for-51) from the field with four of the five starters scoring double digits.
Alison Hatajik (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg) scored a career high of 25 points in the game while playing a season high in minutes with 37. The Jim Crawley Conference Challenge MVP also notched a season high in rebounds with nine.
Kelly Leszcynski (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) contributed with 12 points while also playing 37 minutes.
Maddison Maynard (Lansford, Pa./Panther Valley) scored 11 points in the game with
Ava Stevenson (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) adding 10.
Maddie LaFrance (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) drilled two three-point shots to add six points on the stat sheet.
Lex Ferguson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) had four points off of the bench.
The Huskies started the first quarter out hot by scoring 25 points. They ended the quarter with a 15-point lead. They would not allow the Mountain Cats to gain any momentum in the second by keeping the lead in double digits.
The Huskies would slow down in the second half when Pittsburgh-Johnstown brought the lead down by as much as four with 1:47 left in the third. Bloomsburg entered the final quarter with a nine-point lead and would keep up the pressure until the Mountain Cats gained some momentum with three minutes left in regulation. Pittsburgh-Johnstown whittled down the lead to as much as five, but with some clutch free throws from Stevenson and Leszcynski, the game was sealed.
The Huskies will have a busy weekend at the Nelson Field House. They will face Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Saturday, Dec. 20, and Seton Hill on Sunday, Dec. 21. Both games will tip off at 1 p.m.
