Men's Basketball Falls in PSAC Opener to California (Pa.)

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg men's basketball team fell to California (Pa.), 72-52, in its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opener inside the Nelson Field House on Saturday afternoon.
 
Bloomsburg (2-4, 0-1 PSAC) shot 16-for-52 (30.8 percent) from the floor in the contest. The Huskies went an impressive 11-for-12 from the line in the second half. A strong shooting performance from Cal (3-4, 1-0) helped lift the Vulcans to victory as they went 28-for-61 (45.9 percent) on the night.
 
Courtney Davis II (Gainesville, Va./Patriot) and Ries Naugle (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) tied for the team lead in points with 10 points apiece. George Sabatini (Mountain Top, Pa./Holy Redeemer) finished the night with nine points, seven steals, a block and a steal. For the Vulcans, four players finished with double digits as Antoine Arnett lead the team with 18.
 
A layup and a three-pointer in the opening minutes of the contest gave the visitors an early 5-0 lead. Bloomsburg responded on the next possession as Davis sank a jumper to put the home side on the board. After Cal pulled ahead to a seven-point lead, a dunk and three-pointer from Sabatini swung the momentum back towards the Huskies. Two free throws from pulled Bloomsburg within two, however they could not close the gap. The Vulcans kept Bloomsburg at bay throughout the remainder of the half, slowly building to a 34-22 lead entering halftime.
 
After a missed shots from both sides to start the half, a tip in from Arnett put Cal up 14. The Vulcans surged ahead even further throughout the remainder of the game, leading by as much 36 with three minutes to play. Bloomsburg cut into the lead late, bring the game to its final score of 72-52.
 
Bloomsburg is off the court for a until Tuesday, December 16 as they head to Pitt-Johnstown for a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
