Baseball Falls in Twin Bill with #25 Lenoir-Rhyne

HICKORY, N.C. – The Bloomsburg baseball team fell in both ends of a road doubleheader to No. 25 Lenoir-Rhyne, 7-2 and 14-6, on Saturday afternoon at Durham Field.

Greg Cristino (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) paced the Huskies with four hits in six at-bats while drawing a pair of walks.

Game One – Lenoir-Rhyne 7, Bloomsburg 2

The first game saw both teams notch a single in the opening frame, however Bloomsburg (0-4) put the first run on the board in the second inning. Brady Ebbert (Etters, Pa./Red Land) launched a double into right centerfield before being moved to third base on a groundout. After a walk to Eli Riley (Harrisburg, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) put runners on the corners, Anthony Trommer (Trevose, Pa./Neshaminy) brought Ebbert home with a sacrifice to put the Huskies ahead, 1-0.

Lenoir-Rhyne leveled the score in the bottom of the second, scoring on a wild pitch. The bears tacked on another pair of runs in the third on a fielder's choice and a wild pitch. A two-RBI home run from LRU in the fourth inning put the home team ahead, 5-1. Lenoir-Rhyne brought another run across the plate in the fifth on a bases-loaded walk.

Jacob Reifer (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia Area) led off the sixth inning with a single to left field before moving to second on a single through the left side by Cristino. Ebbert sent an RBI-single to left field score Reifer. A throwing error in the bottom of the frame put the Bears back up by five.

Ebbert and Cristino each went 2-for-3 in the contest. Landon Lorson (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) was tacked with the loss, giving up three hits and three runs while punching out four batters in 2.2 innings pitched. Kaden Peifer (Etters, Pa./Red Land) struck out one batter and gave up three runs in 1.2 innings. Brock Hammaker (Lancaster, Pa./Donegal) went 1.2 innings and retired two batters.

Game Two – Lenoir-Rhyne 14, Bloomsburg 6

Cristino was the first to reach base for Bloomsburg, drawing a walk with two outs on the board in the first. Nico Ingalls (Newton, N.J./Kittatinny Regional) lined a single through the left side to move Cristino to second. Ebbert tallied an RBI-single to put the Huskies ahead 1-0 before Josh Wilson (Clinton, Md./Bishop McNamara) sent a single back up the middle to score Ingalls.

Lenoir-Rhyne posted a pair of runs of his own in the bottom of the frame to level the score.

Joe Levis (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) and Reifer each score in the second inning on back-to-back walks with the bases loaded to put the maroon and gold ahead 4-2.

The Bears responded yet again in the bottom of the frame, launching a three-run homer to right field to take a 5-4 lead. LRU brought one across the plate in the third on an RBI-single. The fourth saw Lenoir-Rhyne tack another four runs across the plate to go ahead 10-4.

Ingalls singled through the left side in the top of the sixth to score Cristino from second base.

The bottom of the seventh saw a two-RBI triple from the home team before a sac fly brought the score to 13-5.

Jeremy Cawley (Duryea, Pa./Pittston Area) scored on a passed ball in the eighth to put the Huskies sixth run on the board.

The Bears scored their final run of the contest on a pickoff attempt at first base.

Cristino and Ingalls went 2-for-3 in the contest while Ebbert and Wilson each notched a pair of RBIs.
