Lacrosse Drops PSAC East Contest to Millersville on the Road

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Bloomsburg lacrosse team fell to Millersville, 21-10, Saturday afternoon. The Huskies dropped to 3-2 on the year and 0-2 in the PSAC East while the Marauders improved to 5-0 on the year and 1-0 in conference action.
 
Sophomores Marykate Sitko (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) and Reiley Knize (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) each had a pair of goals for the Huskies while Knize added an assist. Sitko won a career-best 10 draw controls while picking up three ground balls and causing a pair of turnovers. Maya Fulmer (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) finished the day with a goal and two assists to go with two ground balls. Both Sitko and Fulmer were 1-for-1 on free position shots.
 
Defensively, Emily Simpson (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic), Knize, Fulmer, and Emily Wassel (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) each had a caused turnover and Knize and Fulmer had two ground balls.
 
Lauren Foley (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) started the game in goal for the Huskies and made eight saves in 41:51. Emily Graham (Wantagh, N.Y./St. Anthony's) had one save in 12:30 and Natalie Drake (Worcester, Pa./Methacton) made a save in the final 5:39 of action.
 
Mia Boccippio (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) got the scoring going for the Huskies with the game's first goal just 37 seconds into action to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead. The Marauders scored back-to-back goals to take a 2-1 lead before Sitko tied the game at 2-2 with 5:40 to play in the first. Millersville went on a 4-0 run to end the first and start the second to push its lead to 6-2.
 
Sitko halted the scoring run with her second of the game at the 10:00 mark to cut the lead back to 6-3, but the Huskies and Marauders went goal-for-goal for the next six goals, from the end of the second to the beginning of the third as Millersville held a 9-6 lead with 9:06 to go in the third.
 
Millersville used a three-goal run to push its lead to 12-6 with 6:28 to play. Tori Bruno (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) got on the board with 2:08 to go in the third before Ashlyn Simonetti ended the third with her third of the game to give Millersville a 13-7 lead with 15 minutes to play.
 
Knize and Fulmer scored back-to-back goals to start the fourth quarter and cut the lead to 13-9 with 11:38 to play. The Marauders rattled off seven-straight goals to put the game out of reach with a 20-9 lead at the 2:44 mark. Knize got her second of the game to halt the scoring run with 1:00 to play but Millersville finished off the game with a goal from Kaleigh Funk.
 
The Huskies return to action for a non-conference contest on Wednesday, March 12 when they host Holy Family for a 2:00 p.m. contest at Steph Pettit Stadium.
