Baseball Falls in Tuesday Twin Bill to Kutztown

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg baseball team dropped both legs of its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) doubleheader against Kutztown on Tuesday afternoon.

Mike Miller (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) and Ben Jones (Fallschurch, Va./George C. Marshall) lead the Huskies with three hits on the day while Corey Daniels (Forest City, Pa./Forest City) and Drew Balestrini (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) each posted a pair of base knocks in game one. Overall, Bloomsburg (14-21, 4-12 PSAC East) recorded 16 hits in the doubleheader.

Game One – Kutztown 15, Bloomsburg 5

After a weather delay moved game one's start time to 1:30 p.m., Kutztown (13-22, 6-10) struck first on an RBI-double to right centerfield in the top of the first.

M. Miller responded in the bottom of the frame with an RBI-double of his own to score Balestrini. Greg Cristino (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) gave the Huskies the lead on a single up the middle, scoring M. Miller from second.

KU regained the lead in the third, scoring six runs on the heels of seven hits and two errors to go ahead 7-2.

The top of the fourth saw Riley Powers (Vidalia, Ga./Vidalia) retire the side in just seven pitches while picking up a pair of strikeouts.

High winds and rain saw Bloomsburg put its battle against the Golden Bears on hold as they battled the tarp during a 40-minute weather delay.

Coming out of the delay, Ben Jones (Fallschurch, Va./George C. Marshall) lead off the bottom of the fourth with a double to left centerfield. Jones would be brought home three batters later on an RBI single to second base from Balestrini.

Kutztown got the run back in the top of the fifth before a two-RBI single from Jones pulled the maroon and gold within three.

The Golden Bears pulled away in the sixth, scoring seven runs on three hits en route to the victory.

Landon Lorson (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) was tacked with the loss, allowing seven runs on nine hits in 2.2 innings pitched. The Huskies bullpen combined for nine strikeouts.

Game Two – Kutztown 5, Bloomsburg 2 (6 innings)

The Golden Bears opened the scoring in game two with a sacrifice-fly from Nick Varda in the first. Jared Ferguson brought a second run across the plate for KU with a single up the middle.

Similar to game one, M. Miller contributed to the maroon and gold's first run of the game, this time sending a solo home run over the left centerfield wall.

Bloomsburg leveled the score in the second as Judah Miller (Halifax, Pa./Halifax) scored Jacob Reifer (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia Area) on a sacrifice-fly.

Kutztown posted three runs in the sixth inning to take a 5-2 lead late in the contest.

The Huskies were unable to tie the contest in the bottom of the frame before the game was called due to darkness.

Brock Hammaker (Lancaster, Pa./Donegal) went 5.2 innings with three strikeouts, picking up the loss in the nightcap.

Bloomsburg returns to action on Friday, April 18 as they travel to No. 10/21 West Chester for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
