Women's Tennis Clinches Top Seed in East with 6-1 Win Over ESU

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg women's tennis team clinched the top seed on the East in the upcoming Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament with a dominant 6-1 win over East Stroudsburg Wednesday afternoon. The Huskies improved to 12-2 on the year and remain a perfect 5-0 in conference play while the Warriors drop to 16-6 and 4-1 in conference play.
 
The Huskies opened the match with the doubles point as Alyssa Mazurek (McAdoo, PA/Hazleton Area) and Jen McDonald (Melbourne, Australia/Brentwood Secondary College) won 6-0 at No. 3 doubles and Lia-Sophie Seele (Mülheim, NRW, Germany/Luisenschule) and Dasha Nakonechna (Spain/IOC) picked up at 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles. ESU won 6-4 at No. 1 doubles.
 
East Stroudsburg tied the match at 1-1 with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles but it was all Bloomsburg from there on out. Nicole Ilkovic (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy High School) gave the Huskies a 2-1 match lead with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles and Lily Sierka () pushed the Bloomsburg lead to 3-1 with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.
 
McDonald earned her second win of the day, this time the match- and top-seed-clinching 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles. Seele held on for a 7-5 win in the first set at No. 4 singles and closed out her match with a 6-1 win to give Bloomsburg a 5-1 lead.
 
Nakonechna dropped the first set 6-2 at No. 5 singles but rebounded for a 6-1, 6-1 final two sets to close out the match for the Huskies.
 
Bloomsburg wraps up the regular season at Shippensburg on Saturday in a 1:00 p.m. match on the road. The Huskies have a bye through the quarterfinals and will take on the winner of the West's quarterfinal match up at Burt Reese Tennis Center Friday, May 2 at 10:00 a.m.
