Baseball Completes Series Sweep Over Mansfield With 22 Runs on the Road

MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Bloomsburg baseball team scored 22 runs to complete the series sweep against Mansfield in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.

Bloomsburg (20-24, 9-15 PSAC East) tallied 25 hits on the day while holding Mansfield (13-28, 7-17) to just seven runs on the day.

Eight Huskies finished the twin bill with multiple hits. Josh Wilson (Clinton, Md./Bishop McNamara) recorded three hits, three runs and seven RBIs while Greg Cristino (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) went 4-for-8 with four runs and three RBIs. Brady Ebbert (Etters, Pa./Red Land) recorded four hits as well while Jacob Reifer (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia Area) notched three base hits and four RBIs.

Game One – Bloomsburg 10, Mansfield 3

After Mansfield quickly struck out the Huskies' first two batters, an error kept the inning alive and put Cristino on second base. Back-to-back hit by pitches loaded the bases before a walk from Wilson brought the first run across the plate. Reifer brought two more runs across the plate, sending a 3-2 pitch to right center. Wilson stole home on a double steal to put the maroon and gold ahead 4-0 after the top of the first.

The Mountaineers cut the lead in half with runs in the second and third before an RBI-single from Ebbert put the Huskies up 5-2. Hunter Smith pulled Mansfield back within two with a solo home run in the fourth.

Wilson responded in the top of the fifth with a home run of his own, sending a two-run shot to right center. Reifer brought in two more runs in the sixth on a two-RBI double to left center. Cristino posted the final run of the game in the seventh on a single to third base.

Brandon Wozniak (Nanticoke, Pa./Nanticoke Area) went six innings for his third win of the season, allowing three runs while striking out two. Pete Modrovsky (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) struck out two batters in an inning of relief.

Game Two – Bloomsburg 12, Mansfield 4

Bloomsburg took the lead early in game two, with Corey Daniels (Forest City, Pa./Forest City) scoring on single through the right side from Drew Balestrini (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy). An error by the short stop allowed two more runs to score and give the Huskies a 3-0 lead.

After a solo home run from Mansfield made it 3-1, the maroon and gold scored five runs on four hits and three errors in the top of the second.

The third inning saw the Mountaineers quickly record a pair of putouts, but Bloomsburg began to rally with a single from Ebbert. After advancing on a wild pitch, Ebbert was brought home on a single through the left side by Cristino. Back-to-back doubles from Mike Miller (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) and Balestrini scored a pair of runs before Wilson drove in Balestrini to put the Huskies ahead 12-1.

Mansfield scored three runs but were unable to make a comeback as Bloomsburg extended its winning streak to five games.

Brock Hammaker (Lancaster, Pa./Donegal) struck out four batters and allowed just one earned run in four innings while picking up his third career win.

Bloomsburg returns to action on Tuesday, April 29 as they travel to Clarion for a 3:30 p.m. contest before beginning its final PSAC series with Shepherd on Thursday, May 1.
