KANSAS CITY, Mo. - After coming away with two draws to start the season and a pair of victories last week, the Bloomsburg men's soccer team is ranked No. 24Â in the United Soccer Coaches Division II National Poll announced Tuesday afternoon. Additionally, the Huskies are sitting as the No. 3 team in the Atlantic region.Â
The Huskies turned the lessons from the week before into impactful results. Bloomsburg began the week by going on the road to defeat No. 11 Felician, 2-1, and avenge a pair of defeats at the hands of the Golden Falcons a season ago, including a defeat in the NCAA Tournament at Steph Pettit Stadium. The Huskies built upon the momentum with a 2-0 win over a previously undefeated Seton Hill squad, with the Griffins garnering votes in the National Poll.
Bloomsburg's strong second-half performances fueled the path toward success. After Owen Hollobaugh (State College, Pa./State College) gave the Huskies the opening goal in the first half against Felician, Jake Pacacha (Shelton, Conn./St. Joseph) got behind the defense to put Bloomsburg ahead, as the team was able to hold on for the win. Against the Griffins, the Huskies found the back of the net twice in the final 45 minutes, paced by Pacacha once again beating the backline for the opening effort. Logan Savage (Bensalem, Pa./Archbishop Wood) scored his first goal of the season after subbing on in the closing minutes for defensive insurance.Â
For their efforts in the wins, Pacacha and sophomore goalkeeper Peter Punchello (Jamison, Pa./William Penn Charter) swept the PSAC East Men's Soccer Weekly awards, respectively garnering the PSAC East Athlete and Defensive Athlete of the Week honors.
The Huskies wrap up a three-game nonconference road trip on Wednesday, September 17, with a trip to Philadelphia to take on Jefferson.
