LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Bloomsburg volleyball team opened the Lock Haven Invitational in the win column, taking down Glenville State in four sets inside the Thomas Field House on Friday afternoon.

Emily Gustie (Crofton, Md./Crofton) led the team in kills, notching 16 across four sets.
Marlee Johnson (Newville, Pa./Big Spring) finished the match with nine kills while Wales followed closely behind with seven. Bloomsburg (6-3) combined for 43 kills as a team.

Erin Clark (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert) notched a team-leading 19 assists while Jessica Clark tallied 15 as the duo combined for 34 assists.

The Huskies found themselves behind early as Glenville State (6-6) jumped out to a 6-2 lead early in the contest. A quick 3-1 run from the Huskies brought the team within 2 before the Pioneers grabbed hold of the momentum. Eight-straight points from Glenville State extended its lead to 15-5. The first-set deficit proved to be too large to overcome for the maroon and gold as it fell 25-11 in set one.

Bloomsburg found itself with an early 4-1 lead in the second set, capitalizing on errors from the Pioneers. However, Glenville State then posted four in a row to take a 5-4 lead. From there, the two sides went point-for-point as the score moved to 9-8 in favor of the Huskies. A quick 4-1 run for the Pioneers gave them the lead before Bloomsburg responded a four-point swing to regain the lead. After another seesaw battle, the Huskies surged to a 21-16 lead with four-straight. The run saw back-to-back aces from
Hannah Robson (Charlotte, N.C./Arborbrook) and kills from Johnson and
Lydia Worthing (Tyrone, Pa./Bellwood Antis). Bloomsburg was able to hold of Glenville State and even the match with a 25-21 win in the second set.

Errors from the Pioneers early in the third set allowed the maroon and gold to jump out to an 8-3 lead. Throughout much of the set, Glenville State managed to slowly close the gap, bring the score to 18-16 in favor of the Huskies. A five-point run that featured two aces from Robson gave Bloomsburg a cushion late in the set before closing the frame, 25-18.

Glenville State had the Huskies on their heels to start the fourth set, taking a 6-3 lead early on. The Bloomsburg attackers then powered an 8-2 run to take control of the lead at 11-8. The stretch saw Johnson post three kills while
Katie Kuehl (Aston, Pa./Archmere Academy (Del.)) and
Alynna Haggadone (Broomfield, Colo./Legacy) each tallied kills as well. After the pioneers pulled within one, the maroon and gold went right back on the offensive, with six-straight points to make it 17-10. Following a quick points exchange, Bloomsburg found itself with another six-point run to make it 24-12. Glenville State managed one more point before
Sophie Wales (Port Matilda, Pa./State College) closed out the match with a kill.

Bloomsburg is right back in Lock Haven on Saturday, September 20 for a 12 p.m. matchup with Edinboro to close out the Lock Haven Invitational.
