KANSAS CITY, Mo. - After moving to 5-0-1 on the season, the Bloomsburg women's soccer team is ranked No. __ in the latest unveiling of the United Soccer Coaches Division II National Poll. The Huskies additionally hold the No. 2 ranking in this week's Atlantic Region poll.
Bloomsburg started last week off with a win to move to 5-0, claiming a 1-0 victory over Shippensburg. Daryn Savage (Bensalem, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and Haley Bull (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) connected on a set piece, with each getting career firsts, as Savage's pass found the foot of Bull for the game-winning goal at the near post. The Huskies followed up the midweek result with a 1-1 draw against West Chester. Katie Reynolds (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) continued another week of collegiate firsts, with the freshman midfielder finding the top right corner with a shot from outside the box.Â
Samantha Merklin (Effort, Pa./Pleasant Valley) played a crucial role in the decision, as the senior came away with a season-high 12 saves to help secure the draw. For her efforts defending the net, Merklin received her second PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week honor.
The Huskies return to the field for PSAC action on Wednesday, September 17, at 7:00 p.m. against East Stroudsburg.
