WALTHAM, Mass. – The no. 6-ranked Bloomsburg field hockey team opened the season with a 2-0, shutout victory over Bentley on Thursday afternoon.
Â
Bloomsburg (1-0) stood tall defensively in the season-opener, holding the Falcons to just three shots. The Huskies outshot Bentley 5-0 in the opening half.
Â
Midfielder
Alyxandra Flick (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) potted the Huskies first goal of the season halfway through the second quarter as a deflected pass into the shooting circle found the junior's stick on the left side before beating the goaltender to break the deadlock.
Â
Just under nine minutes into the third quarter, a corner for Bloomsburg gave the opportunity to double its lead. The insert found its way to
Raegan Iasiello (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) who sent a pass across the top of shooting circle to
Sophie Lawler (Newport, Pa./Newport). A shot from Lawler deflected off the stick of
Kendall Iasiello (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) in front of the net and found its way past the goalie to make it 2-0.
Â
The Huskies continued to pressure in the fourth quarter, outshooting the Falcons 6-0 in the frame, but were unable to find the back of the net. Overall, Bloomsburg finished with a 14-3 advantage in shots.
Â
Bloomsburg continues its New England roadtrip on Saturday, September 6 with a 1 p.m. matchup against Franklin Pierce.
