Huskies Defeat East Stroudsburg in Second-Half Comeback

East Stroudsburg, Pa. - The Bloomsburg women's basketball team came back to defeat the Warriors 71-68. 

Four starters scored in double digits against East Stroudsburg. Maddie LaFrance (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) scored a season high of 19 points, shooting 50% from the field. Ava Stevenson (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) scored 14 points while Maddison Maynard (Lansford, Pa./Panther Valley) had 11. Alison Hatajik (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg) scored 10 points and led the team in rebounds with eight. Kelly Leszcynski (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) rounded out the starting lineup with nine points. 

From the bench, Lex Ferguson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) scored six points and Leah Kale (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) finished with two.

First Half:

Stevenson started out hot with eight straight points, including two shots from behind the arc, to start the quarter. Stevenson then passed the baton to Maynard who scored the final eight points in the quarter, including two and-ones. The first quarter ended with the Huskies down 17-16. 

Bloomsburg fell into trouble in this quarter as they were down by as much as 12 points. They made four shots out of 14 from the field and looked to be a bad day for the Huskies. With a three from Maynard, a layup from Ferguson and free throws from LaFrance and Hatajik, the half ended with the Huskies down 39-28. 

Second Half:

The Huskies came out of halftime on fire, hitting three straight three-point shots, one from Leszcynski and two from LaFrance. LaFrance took over this quarter, scoring 14 points to bring the Huskies back and make it a two-score game. The third quarter ended with the Warriors up 55-49.

The final quarter started with a three from Leszcynski, but East Stroudsburg was not ready to give up. Both teams traded buckets back and forth until the momentum shifted in the Huskies' favor. A layup from Stevenson gave Bloomsburg its first lead since the first quarter with 2:35 left in regulation. After two free throws from the Warriors to take the lead back, Hatajik snatched the it back with a jumper in the paint. Ferguson and Leszcynski added to the lead to make it a four-point game with 33 seconds left. After the Warriors' timeout, East Stroudsburg came back with a three to cut the lead to one with 27 seconds left. Stevenson sealed the game with two clutch free throws 71-68. 

On the Horizon:

Bloomsburg will return to the Nelson Field House on Jan. 15 to play West Chester at 5:30 p.m.
