Maynard, Kale Combine for 37 to Vanquish Mansfield

BLOOMSBURG. Pa. - The Bloomsburg women's basketball team defeated Mansfield 76-51 with a stunning performance from Maddison Maynard (Lansford, Pa./Panther Valley) and Leah Kale (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove).

The duo combined for 37 points, Maynard had 19 while Kale finished with 18 off of the bench. The Huskies also had all-around scoring to back up Maynard and Kale. Alison Hatajik (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg) led the team in rebounds with 10, and scored eight points. Olivia Selverian (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) made her first start of the season and ended with six points. Maddie LaFrance (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) and Ava Stevenson (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) rounded out the starters with four points each.

From the bench, Lex Ferguson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) and Sophia Shults (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton Area) both had six points, Carleigh Anderson (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) had four and Diamond Thornton (Philadelphia, Pa./Wilkes-Barre Area) had one. 

First Half:

Bloomsburg started out well, being up 7-3 with three minutes into the first quarter. Hatajik had a jumper, Stevenson had a three-point shot and LaFrance had a layup. To end the quarter, the Huskies led 15-8 with Kale and Maynard adding to the stat sheet. 

Maynard and Kale were all over this quarter, scoring 17 of the Huskies' 24 points. Hatajik, LaFrance and Shults also scored in this quarter to end the first half with Bloomsburg up 39-22. 

Second Half:

Maynard picked up right where she left off in the first half, scoring two layups to start the half for the Huskies. Selverian had four points in the quarter, adding to the lead. With Ferguson and Hatajik making their presence known in the third, the lead was up to 53-36 to end the third.

The Huskies started to cruise to victory after boosting their lead by as much as 30. Thornton and Anderson made appearances and both scored in this quarter. The game ended with the Huskies on top 76-51.

On the Horizon:

The Huskies will continue Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play on Jan. 24. They will travel to Millersville to face the Marauders at 1 p.m.
