MILLERSVILLE, Pa - The Bloomsburg women's basketball team suffered a loss to the Millersville Marauders 61-55.
The Huskies struggled mightily shooting the basketball, making 20 out of 66 shots (30.3%) from the field.
Leah Kale (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) had another impressive night, scoring 19 points from the bench.
Maddison Maynard (Lansford, Pa./Panther Valley) led the starters in points and rebounds with nine and 14 respectively.
Alison Hatajik (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg) scored seven points and six rebounds in the game.
Maddie LaFrance (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) and
Ava Stevenson (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) scored five and three respectively.
Olivia Selverian (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) made her second start of the season and scored two points.Â
Off of the bench,
Lex Ferguson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) scored eight points while
Sophia Shults (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton Area) scored two.Â
First Half:
The Huskies had a slow start in the first quarter, being down 11-2 early. They started to fight back, bringing the lead down to five with some scoring from Hatajik, Selverian and Ferguson. Bloomsburg ended the quarter down 15-10.
The Huskies and Marauders went back and forth early in second thanks to a free throw from Stevenson and a layup from Hatajik. After a Kale three, the game was 20-16, but the Huskies went cold. The Marauders made the lead 30-18, but LaFrance hit a three and Kale made a layup to end the half 30-23.
Second Half:
Bloomsburg continued to struggle, heavily relying on free throws to score. They would not make a field goal until 4:46 left in the quarter with a layup from Ferguson. Maynard and Hatajik would have the last three field goals for the Huskies, and ended the third down 45-37.
Bloomsburg started to battle back this quarter with a three from Kale. Ferguson and Maynard added to the comeback to put the Huskies down five with six minutes left. Millersville continued to score, putting the lead back up 52-45 with just under four minutes left. Kale had a late-game surge, draining three straight three-pointers to make the lead 57-55 with 28 seconds left in regulation. Bloomsburg, being forced to foul, made Millersville shoot free throws to try and complete a last-minute victory. With Bloomsburg unable to score, the game ended 61-55.

With the Tuesday's game against Lock Haven being postponed due to inclement weather, the Huskies next game will be against Shepherd in the Nelson Field House on Jan. 29. Tip off will be at 5:30 p.m.
