Box Score BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg women's basketball team was bested by Shepherd 56-51 at the Nelson Field House.
The Huskies struggled from the field, making 22 out 58 shots from the field. They also only made two three pointers out of 19. The defense played well, making Shepherd shoot 39.6% (21-for-53) from the field.
Kelly Leszcynski (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) led the team in points and assists with 10 and three respectively.
Lex Ferguson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) made her first start of the season and scored eight points.
Maddison Maynard (Lansford, Pa./Panther Valley) led the team in rebounds with seven and scored five points.
Sophia Shults (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton Area) made her first career start and scored five points.
Olivia Selverian (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) rounded out the starters with two points.
Leah Kale (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) led the bench in points with seven,Â
Maddie LaFrance (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) scored six points,
Ava Stevenson (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) had five and
Alison Hatajik (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg) ended with two.Â
First Half:
Ferguson started the game off hot, scoring eight straight points to start the first quarter. Being down 16-12, Kale hits a jumper to end the first with Bloomsburg down 16-14.Â
The Huskies could not get that much going early in the second, not scoring until the halfway mark with a three from Stevenson. Stevenson scored a layup to bring the lead down to 22-19. Bloomsburg then only made one field goal and two free throws to end the quarter down 26-23.
Second Half:
Bloomsburg went down by eight to start the quarter, but with a jumper from Leszcynski and a layup from Selverian, the game was back to a two-score game. The Huskies continued to battle as Maynard had a layup and Shults added two points from free throws. After a long buzzer beater from Shepherd, the Huskies were down 45-36 to end the third.
LaFrance started the fourth by making the second of the two threes that Bloomsburg made the entire game. Leszcynski then started to pick up the pace by scoring four straight points to bring the lead down to four. It was a two-score game with 3:44 left in regulation thanks to a Kale fast break layup. Neither team scored after this bucket and the game was over with Shepherd on top 56-51.

Bloomsburg will travel to Shippensburg to face the Raiders on Jan. 31. Tip off will be at 1 p.m.
