HARROGATE, Tenn. - The Bloomsburg softball team finished play in Abe's Invitational with a win against Lincoln Memorial and a loss to Thomas More. The team had a total of seven runs with 21 hits.Â
Sarah Yamrick (Fort Myers, Fla./Bishop Verot) had an impressive day pitching, striking out 10 Railsplitters, earning the win.
Alizabeth Schuler (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) led the team in total hits with four on five at-bats, including a home-run.
Allie Wenrich (Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin) had three hits, three RBIs and one home-run.
Josie Straigis (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) also homered against Lincoln Memorial.
Game one - Bloomsburg 2, Thomas More 4
Thomas More got on the board first in the bottom of the second after hitting an RBI triple and RBI double. They continued to score as they'd hit an RBI single to make the lead 3-0.Â
Maulani Frost ended the Huskies' scoring drought with a 2-RBI single, sending
Sydney Thompson (Karthaus, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) and Straigis home in the top of the fourth.Â
The Saints got back on the board with an RBI single to bolster the lead to 4-2. The Huskies were unable to rally back into the game, dropping the bout 4-2.Â
Game two - Bloomsburg 5, Lincoln Memorial 4
In the top of the first,
Taylor Kranzley (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) singled and advanced to second after Yamrick was thrown out at first. The Huskies then had back-to-back homers with Wenrich and Straigis.Â
Lincoln Memorial was not phased as they hit a triple to send three Railsplitters home. The eventful first inning ended in a tie 3-3.Â
Wenrich was not done as she had an RBI single to give
Gabby Starr (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) a run in the top of the second.Â
Schuler added to the Huskies lead by hitting one out of the park in the top of the third to make it 5-3. Lincoln Memorial struck back with a home-run of their own to make it 5-4 to end the third.Â
Lincoln Memorial was stuffed in the final five innings after a 10-strikeout performance from Yamrick. The Huskies took the victory 5-4.
On the Horizon:
Bloomsburg will play at Bowie State on March 7 in a double header. The first game will start at 1 p.m. and the second will be at 3.
