Baseball Splits Road Doubleheader With No. 11 Seton Hill

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg baseball split its doubleheader against No. 11 Seton Hill on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies won game one 10-3 before falling 1-0 in the nightcap.
 
Grant Russo (Sugarloaf, Pa./Hazleton Area) notched four hits on the day, going 2-for-4 from the plate in both legs of the doubleheaders. Nathan Kress (Lansdale, Pa./La Salle College H.S.) posted four RBIs on his seventh inning grand slam in game one.
 
Bloomsburg (8-2) notched 10 runs and 13 hits on the day while holding Seton Hill (11-4) to just four runs.
 
Game One – Bloomsburg 10, Seton Hill 3
 
After neither side recorded a hot in the first inning, Bloomsburg tallied the first hit of the contest in the second on a single to third base from Anthony Trommer (Trevose, Pa./Neshaminy).
 
The fourth inning saw Drew Balestrini (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) lead off the inning with a left field single. Later in the frame, an RBI-single to left-centerfield from Justin Weaver (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville). Broke open the scoring. The subsequent at-bat saw Casey O'Brien (Moosic, Pa./Riverside) drive in Trommer on a shot to right field.
 
Seton Hill broke the shutout in bottom of the fifth, scoring on a fielder's choice.
 
Bloomsburg pulled away in the top of the seventh, opening the inning with a single to left field. A sacrifice bunt and a pitch moved O'Brien to third before a walk from Matt Freda (Lafayette, N.J./High Point Regional) put runners on the corners. Russo's second hit of the contest brought in O'Brien to make a 3-1. After a walk to Balestrini loaded the bases, The marron and gold got a pair of runs off back-to-back hit by pitches to Dylan Hirsh (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) and Mike Miller (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh). Trommer drew a walk to give Bloomsburg the 6-1 lead before a grand slam to made it 1-1 in favor of the Huskies.
 
A pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh was not enough as the maroon and gold toke a 10-3 win over the No. 11 team in the nation.
 
Brandon Wozniak (Nanticoke, Pa./Nanticoke Area) picked up his second win of the season, going five innings with three strikeouts and two hits. He allowed just one run in his start.
 
Game Two, Seton Hill 1, Bloomsburg 0
 
The nightcap started with Grant Russo (Sugarloaf, Pa./Hazleton Area) leading of the game with a centerfield single. Trommer then doubled in the second before Russo recorded another single in the third.
 
The bottom of the third saw Nate Dorinskyled off with a solo home run to notch the only run of the second game.
 
Bloomsburg could not find an answer throughout the remainder of the contest, falling 1-o to the Griffins.
 
Andrew Armstrong (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) got the start in game two with nine strikeouts while allowing one run and three hits in six innings pitched. Pete Modrovsky (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) pitched two innings of relief, giving up just one it and striking out two.
 
Bloomsburg returns to Greensburg, on Sunday, March 15 as face off against the Griffins for another doubleheader beginning at noon.
