Box Score 4 SALEM, Va. - The Bloomsburg softball team wraps up play in the MEC/PSAC Crossover. They finished 3-1 in the crossover and advance to 9-3 on the season.
Game one - Bloomsburg 7, Glenville State 6
Glenville State started off strong in Bloomsburg's first game. The Huskies found themselves down 4-0 at the end of the fourth inning.
Reagan Wiest (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) gave the Huskies an energy shifting home-run to put them on the scoreboard.Â
Glenville State brought another runner home, making it 6-1. With their backs against the wall,
Sarah Yamrick (Fort Myers, Fla./Bishop Verot) started the comeback off with a double.
Allie Wenrich (Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin) then stepped up to the plate to blast one out of the park, making it 6-3.Â
Sydney Thompson (Karthaus, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) continued the Huskies' rally by hitting a double to start the seventh inning. Maulani Frost singled to first which allowed Yamrick to load up the bases for
Alizabeth Schuler (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area). Schuler drilled one to right field, tying the game 6-6 on a 3-RBI triple.
Josie Straigis (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) completed the comeback by rewarding Schuler a run with a sacrifice fly. The game ended on with a hard-fought 7-6 victory for Bloomsburg after
Becca Varhula (Philadelphia, Pa./School Lane Charter - IB)Â held them scoreless for the final two straight innings.
Game two - Bloomsburg 8, Davis & Elkins 2
The scoring started with the
Carly Wywoda (Dupont, Pa./Holy Cross) getting on base thanks to an error by the shortstop. Wiest bunted Wywoda over to second put her in scoring position.
Jenna Kaufman (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) doubled to center field which allowed the Huskies to earn their first run.
Taylor Kranzley (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) singled to center field who then was sent home by Yamrick who doubled. Schuler rewarded Yamrick with a run as well as Schuler also singled to center. Bloomsburg ended the second inning up 4-0.Â
The Huskies scored their last four runs in the sixth inning with Schuler hitting
Jovie Valenzuela (Poconos, Pa./Pleasant Valley), Kaufman and Kranzley home on a double. The Huskies wrapped up their dominant performance after Schuler raced home from a Straigis RBI single. Bloomsburg took the victory 8-2.
Game three - Bloomsburg 1, Charleston 5
Bloomsburg struggled in this game, only able to score once. Both defenses played well, not allowing any runs until the fifth inning where Charleston opened it up. They scored two runs, putting some pressure on the Huskies.Â
Bloomsburg could not comeback as they dropped this one 5-1, their score came from Kranzley hitting
Emma Holmes (Mount Wolf, Pa./Northeastern Senior) home on a single.
Game four - Bloomsburg 9, West Liberty 1
The Huskies were unable to be stopped against West Liberty. They scored five straight runs in the first inning alone. Yamrick, Schuler, Straigis, Wenrich and Wywoda all reached home thanks to multiple errors on West Liberty's defense.Â
Yamrick reached home again after Straigis got out on a sacrifice ground ball. Bloomsburg earned their final three runs in the fourth inning with Straigis, Schuler and Wenrich getting their second runs of the game. The game ended in five innings after a one-sided game for the Huskies.
On the Horizon:
The games against Wilmington were canceled due to inclement weather. Bloomsburg will be back in action as they will travel to face Shepherd in a double header on March 20. Game one will be at 2 p.m. and game two will be at 4.Â
