EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg women's lacrosse team dropped a 19-6 decision at No. 10 East Stroudsburg in PSAC action Wednesday afternoon.
East Stroudsburg (8-0, 3-0 PSAC) used a fast start to take control, scoring eight goals in the opening quarter to build an early 8-0 lead. Bloomsburg (2-5, 1-2 PSAC) got on the board late in the frame as MaryKate Sitko finished in front with 2:40 remaining to make it 8-1.
The Warriors carried the momentum into the second, outscoring the Huskies 6-1 in the quarter to extend the lead to 14-2 at the break.
Kayla Stressman (Harleysville, Pa./North Penn) accounted for Bloomsburg's lone goal of the period, finishing a feed from
Brianna Austin (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) with 3:30 left in the half. Stressman won the draw control after Paige Moreland's goal to make it 13-1 ESU and got the ball down to Austin. Austin fed it right back to Stressman for her third goal of the year and first of the game.
Bloomsburg opened the second half with a quick strike as Stressman converted a pass from Sitko at 13:41 of the third to cut the deficit to 14-3. East Stroudsburg answered with a three-goal run to push the lead to 17-3 heading into the fourth.
The Huskies closed the game with their strongest stretch, scoring three times in the fourth quarter. Stressman netted an unassisted goal early in the period and added a free-position tally with 3:06 remaining.
Delaney Fox (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) capped the scoring with 1:04 left off an assist from
Emily Simpson (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic).
East Stroudsburg added two goals in the final quarter to secure the 19-6 win.
Stressman led Bloomsburg with four goals, while Sitko added a goal and an assist. Fox also found the back of the net as the Huskies totaled six goals on 13 shots.
Stressman won a team-best five draw controls and picked up a ground ball while
Reiley Knize (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) won three draws, had a ground ball, and caused one turnover. Defensively,
Mikayla Viola (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) caused a pair of turnovers and picked up a ground ball while Sitko led the Huskies with three ground balls and had a caused turnover and draw control.
The Huskies return to action on Wednesday, March 25 when they host #15 Kutztown for a 2:00 p.m. PSAC East contest at Steph Pettit Stadium.
