Women's Lacrosse Falls to #15 Kutztown After Late Run

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Bloomsburg opened strong and matched #15 Kutztown goal-for-goal in the first quarter, but a second-quarter surge by the Golden Bears proved to be the difference in a 21-9 PSAC East decision Wednesday afternoon at Steph Pettit Stadium.

Bloomsburg (2-6, 1-3 PSAC East) showed early offensive rhythm and composure, striking first and keeping pace with one of the conference's top teams throughout an evenly played opening frame. Delaney Fox (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) ignited the Huskies with the game's first goal off an assist from Alexis Guzylak (Corning, N.Y./Horseheads), setting the tone for an aggressive attacking approach. Fox added a second tally on a free-position opportunity, while Marykate Sitko (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) and Molly Clifford (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) each found the back of the net to cap a four-goal opening quarter that ended tied at 4-4.

The Huskies' offense continued to generate quality chances throughout the contest, finishing with 25 shots and placing 19 on goal. Fox, Sitko, and Samantha Keck (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) each scored twice to lead a balanced scoring effort, while Mikayla Viola (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus), Kayla Stressman (Harleysville, Pa./North Penn), and Clifford added goals to round out the attack. Sitko also contributed an assist in a three-point performance, continuing her steady play in the midfield.

Bloomsburg battled evenly in several key statistical areas against the nationally ranked Golden Bears. The Huskies matched Kutztown with 15 draw controls, led by Sitko and Reiley Knize (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton), helping create additional offensive possessions. Bloomsburg also stayed efficient in the clearing game, converting 16-of-21 attempts, including a perfect 3-for-3 mark in the opening quarter and 4-for-4 in the fourth.

Defensively, Bloomsburg turned in several key stretches, particularly in the opening quarter and again in the third, where the Huskies forced turnovers and created transition opportunities. The backline was active on the ground, with Brigid Keaveney (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) and Sophie Mellman (Middle Island, N.Y./Longwood) combining for seven ground balls and multiple caused turnovers. AnnMarie Davenport (Elkton, Md./Elkton) added a pair of ground balls and a caused turnover, helping the Huskies match Kutztown with 23 ground balls on the day.

In goal, Emily Graham (Wantagh, N.Y./St. Anthony's) delivered a strong performance with 12 saves, including multiple stops on free-position attempts and point-blank chances that helped limit Kutztown's scoring runs and keep Bloomsburg within striking distance during key moments.

After Kutztown built a lead in the second quarter, Bloomsburg responded with one of its best stretches of the game in the third. Stressman converted a man-down opportunity to spark the offense, followed by goals from Viola, Keck, and Sitko in a quick sequence that cut into the deficit and showcased the Huskies' ability to generate momentum in transition.

Keck closed the scoring for Bloomsburg with her second goal in the final seconds, punctuating a persistent offensive effort that saw contributions across the lineup and consistent pressure on the Kutztown defense.

Bloomsburg returns to action on Saturday, March 28, when the Huskies travel to West Chester for a PSAC East matchup. Opening draw is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. from Vonnie Gros Field.
