SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - The Bloomsburg softball team won both games against Shepherd to start play within the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).Â
The team had 26 total hits with 18 runs.
Allie Wenrich (Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin) led the team in RBIs with six total, five in the first game. She also had three hits, three runs and homer.
Jenna Kaufman (Audubon, Pa./Methacton)Â tied in hits to lead the team with five.Â
The pitching duo of
Sarah Yamrick (Fort Myers, Fla./Bishop Verot) and
Josie Straigis (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) took care of business on both sides of the ball. Yamrick struck out six Rams while allowing only five hits, while joining Kaufman in hits with five. Straigis nearly pitched a shutout by only allowing one run. She then earned a run of her own by blasting one out of the park on offense in the same game she pitched.
Game one - Bloomsburg 14, Shepherd 4:
Both defenses started out well with no scoring until the top of the third where the Huskies opened it up.
Taylor Welsh (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) singled to right field to earn a spot on base.
Taylor Kranzley (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) singled up the middle to advance Welsh to second. Yamrick then loaded up the bases by hitting the ball to left field.
Sydney Thompson (Karthaus, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) doubled to left to bring in two Huskies. Wenrich brought in Yamrick to make it 3-0 to end the top of the third.Â
The Rams tied the game up 3-3 at the bottom of the fourth, but the Huskies were not done scoring. Yamrick tripled and scored after Thompson reached on an error. Kaufman hit one to center field to bring in Thompson, and
Reagan Wiest (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) singled to left to let Wenrich run home. The bottom of the fifth ended with the Huskies back on top 6-3.Â
The Huskies continued their domination after Wenrich brought Yamrick and Thompson home in the top of the sixth. Shepherd fought back with a run of their own, but the Huskies ended the game in the top of the seventh. They scored six straight runs with a barrage of hits from Wenrich, Straigis, Kaufman and Wiest, ending the game 14-4.
Game two, Bloomsburg 4, Shepherd 1 (6 Inn.):
Shepherd started the scoring for the game as they earned a run from a line out. This would be their first and only score of the game.
Wenrich stepped to the plate to hit one out of the park to tie the game back up. Straigis backed up Wenrich with a home-run of her own while pitching the entire game. To end the fourth inning, the Huskies were up 2-1.Â
Kaufman reached on a fielder's choice to bring in Kranzley, making it 3-1. They earned their final point with
Carly Wywoda (Dupont, Pa./Holy Cross) singling up the middle to bring Wiest home.
The game ended in the top of the seventh 4-1.

Bloomsburg now moves on to 10-3Â (2-0 PSAC) on the season. Their next bout will be at Shippensburg in a doubleheader on March 21. Game one will be at 1 p.m. with game two being at 3.
