SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg softball team sank the Shippensburg Raiders in both games of their doubleheader. The Huskies now advance to 13-3 (4-0 PSAC) on the season.
The team had a total of 14 runs with 22 hits.
Reagan Wiest (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) and
Jenna Kaufman (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) both had five hits, leading the team. Wiest also led the team in RBIs with six, recording four in game two. Â
Both of Bloomsburg's pitchers,
Sarah Yamrick (Fort Myers, Fla./Bishop Verot) and
Josie Straigis (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe), took victories in their while pitching all seven innings in their respective games. Yamrick had seven strikeouts while almost pitching a shutout in game one. Straigis forced 14 Raiders to fly out and five to ground out in game two.
Game one, Bloomsburg 3, Shippensburg 1
In the top of the second, Kaufman singled to right field to give the Huskies their first hit of the game. Kaufman then advanced to second after a passed ball by the Raiders. Wenrich was walked and Straigis hit a sacrifice bunt to advance both runners into scoring position. Wiest blasted one up the middle, sending Wenrich and Kaufman home and gave the Huskies a 2-0 lead.Â
The Huskies earned another run in the fourth inning, starting with Wenrich getting walked again. Straigis doubled to left field on a ground-rule double, advancing Wenrich to third. Wiest loaded up the bases after being walked.
Taylor Welsh (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) hit a sacrifice fly to give Wenrich her second run of the game.
Shippensburg did score one run in the bottom of the seventh, but Yamrick sealed game one 3-1.
Game two, Bloomsburg 11, Shippensburg 6
The Huskies came out swinging to start game two.
Taylor Kranzley (Northampton, Pa./Northampton), Yamrick and Kaufman all singled, loading up the bases. Wenrich was walked which would send Kranzley home, making it 1-0.
Sydney Thompson (Karthaus, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) reached on a fielder's choice, advancing Wenrich to second and Thompson to third. Wiest clocked another one deep, earning a 3-RBI double. Welsh rewarded Wiest with a run after singling to right field. The top of the first ended 5-0.
Shippensburg scored three runs in the bottom of the first trying to make a comeback. Neither team scored until the fourth inning where Yamrick doubled and was sent home by Kaufman who singled to center. The Raiders did have a pitching change, but it would not slow down the Huskies. Kaufman scored on a wild pitch, Straigis hit an RBI double, Wiest hit her fourth RBI by singling up the middle and
Carly Wywoda (Dupont, Pa./Holy Cross) hit Wiest and Straigis home with a single to center field. The inning ended after a major offensive rally from Bloomsburg 11-3.Â
Shippensburg did score three runs entering the final inning, but Straigis ended game two with a dominant 11-6 score.

The Huskies will player in their home opener against Kutztown on March 27. Game one will start at 2 p.m. and game two will start at 4.
