BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg softball team (13-5, 4-2 PSAC) dropped both games against Kutztown (14-10, 5-1 PSAC) in the team's home opener. The team had a combined 11 hits and four runs in the doubleheader.
Game one - Bloomsburg 3, Kutztown 8
The Golden Bears struck first as they scored off of a hit-by-ptich with bases loaded. The Huskies fired back with
Allie Wenrich (Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin) hitting one out of the park on the first pitch in the bottom of the second.
Kutztown came back with a home-run of their own, making 2-1 after the top of the fourth. In the same inning,
Sydney Thompson (Karthaus, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) singled to center field and advanced to second with a Wenrich walk. Straigis reached on a fielder's choice that would end up getting Thompson out at third. After an error from Kutztown,
Reagan Wiest (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) reached second base, allowing Wenrich to score. Straigis went home after
Alizabeth Schuler (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) grounded out, making the game a 3-2 Bloomsburg lead.
Kutztown then scored six straight runs in the sixth and seventh inning, ending game one 8-3.
Game two - Bloomsburg 1, Kutztown 9
Kutztown scored first again in this game, bringing in three runs in the first inning.
Taylor Kranzley (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) doubled to left field to start the batting for the Huskies. She was driven in by
Alizabeth Schuler (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area), making it 3-1 to end the first inning.
The Huskies could not gain momentum on offense and were defeated by the Golden Bears in game two 9-1.
On the Horizon:
The Huskies will take on Millersville at the Jan M. Hutchinson Field on March 30 in a doubleheader. Game one will start at 2 p.m. and game two will start at 4.
