BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg softball team (15-5, 6-2 PSAC) swept Millersville (15-11, 5-5 PSAC) with 20 total strikeouts from
Sarah Yamrick (Fort Myers, Fla./Bishop Verot) and a grand slam from
Josie Straigis (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe).
The team had a total of 18 runs with 20 hits in the doubleheader.
Yamrick pitched a shutout in game one with 13 strikeouts to put away the Marauders in five innings. Straigis had two home runs, tying
Alizabeth Schuler (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) in RBIs with five.
Allie Wenrich (Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin) led the team in hits with four total while
Taylor Kranzley (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) reached home three times.
Game one - Bloomsburg 8, Millersville 0
The Huskies started scoring in the bottom of the first. Kranzley was walked and then raced home from a
Jenna Kaufman (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) double. Kaufman reached third base after
Sydney Thompson (Karthaus, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) grounded out, and earned a run after Wenrich singled. The inning ended with the Huskies up 2-0.
Bloomsburg scored more in the second inning starting with
Taylor Welsh (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) getting walked. Kranzley singled, allowing Welsh to get into scoring position. With a passed ball, both Welsh and Kranzley advanced while Schuler was at bat. Schuler flew out to right field which allowed Welsh to take home base. The Huskies ended the second with a Kaufman singled, bringing in Kranzley, giving Bloomsburg a 4-0 lead.
Straigis opened the bottom of the third with the only score in the inning with her first home-run of the afternoon. The Huskies bolstered the lead in their final offensive inning by scoring three straight runs. Welsh was walked and advanced to second on a bunt from Kranzley. Schuler blasted one towards center field to bring Welsh home and advanced Kranzley to third. Thompson gained an RBI after the fielder chose to throw home and was too late as Kranzley gained her third run of the game. Game one was over after Yamrick gained her 12th and 13th strikeout of the game, ending it in five innings 8-0.
Game two - Bloomsburg 10, Millersville 6
The Huskies started the game slow as they faced a 5-0 deficit through four innings. This ignited a fuse that could not be stopped as the Huskies exploded for seven straight runs in the inning. It started with a barrage of hits from Kaufman, Thompson and Wenrich, loading up the bases. Straigis swung the momentum back to the Huskies with a grand slam, dropping the lead to 5-4. Bloomsburg was not done as
Reagan Wiest (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) and
Malauni Frost (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg) both singled, crowding first and second base. Schuler then hit a three-run homer to steal the lead from the Marauders.Â
Millersville did hit a home run to make it a 7-6 Bloomsburg lead. It would not be enough as Bloomsburg scored three more runs in the bottom of the fifth with multiple RBI singles from Wiest, Frost and Kranzley. the Huskies secured the comeback, winning 10-6, and Bloomsburg has now regained first place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East with six wins and two losses.

The Huskies will travel to Mansfield to play the Mountaineers in a doubleheader. Game one will be at 2 p.m. and game two will be at 4.
