NORRISTOWN, Pa. - The Bloomsburg softball team took both games against Jefferson.
The Huskies played great on offense, hitting the ball 20 times and scoring 14 runs. The team's defense was elite, only allowing two runs, one in each game.
The Huskies pitchers played well with
Josie Straigis (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) standing out as she led the team in RBIs with five total. She also had three hits and a run while picking up the win in the second game by allowing only four hits.
Sarah Yamrick (Fort Myers, Fla./Bishop Verot) led the team in hits with four. She also picked up the win in game one with four strikeouts.
Game one - Bloomsburg 5, Jefferson 1
The game started out slow, with no scoring from either team until the top of fourth inning.
Allie Wenrich (Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin) was walked and then scored off of a
Carly Wywoda (Dupont, Pa./Holy Cross) single to left field. Wywoda was brought home by
Taylor Welsh (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) who had an RBI single. The Huskies finished the fourth inning up 2-0.
The Huskies were back for more in the top of the sixth where
Alizabeth Schuler (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) doubled to left center. Straigis then made the lead to 3-0 after bringing Schuler in for the score. Wywoda picked up another RBI when she singled up the middle to let Straigis cross home plate. Jefferson scored their first point in the sixth inning with an RBI single to make it 4-1.
The Huskies sealed the game with an RBI single from Schuler, bringing in Yamrick. The Huskies added to the win column winning 5-1.
Game two - Bloomsburg 9, Jefferson 1
Bloomsburg came out swinging to start game two, going up 4-0 early. Kranzley scored off of an error after Schuler hit a sacrifice bunt. With Yamrick and Schuler on base, Straigis hit a 2-RBI double, making it 3-0.
Reagan Wiest (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) finished the dominant run with an RBI single, bringing in
Sydney Thompson (Karthaus, Pa./Bald Eagle Area).
In the top of the third, the Huskies saw Thompson singling and advancing to second after a successful Wiest bunt.
Taylor Welsh (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) was then walked, loading up the bases for Kranzley. Kranzley singled up the middle, making it 6-0 by bringing in two Huskies. Straigis singled up the middle, ending the third inning up 7-0.
Jefferson did score in the bottom of the third, but this would be the only run the Rams earned. Huskies finished the game with a statement with
Allyson Babula (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) hitting Kranzley in on a ground out. Straigis earned her fourth RBI on a ground out, ending the game in five innings with a 9-1 final.

Bloomsburg softball will travel to Salem, Va. to play in the Salem Tournament on March 14. They will play Glenville State at 11 a.m. and Davis & Elkins at 3 p.m.
