Huskies Record Four Home Runs to Split Doubleheader Against Shippensburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg softball team garnered four home runs in while splitting doubleheader against Shippensburg. 

Allie Wenrich (Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin) led the team in RBIs with five after homering twice in game two. Josie Straigis (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) had six total hits and recorded the first home run the Huskies had in the doubleheader. Alizabeth Schuler (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) had three hits, three RBIs and a home run. 

Game one - Bloomsburg 3, Shippensburg 10

The Raiders scored the first run of the game in the top of the second inning. Their 1-0 lead did not last long as Straigis hit one out of the park to tie the game. Then, Reagan Wiest (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) and Sarah Yamrick (Fort Myers, Fla./Bishop Verot) crowded first and second respectively, waiting for Schuler's at-bat. Schuler brought both of them home on a 2-RBI single, taking the lead 3-1 to end the second.

Bloomsburg's offense was unable to score anymore runs as the Raiders scored nine straight throughout the game. The game ended 10-3 in the Raiders' favor.

Game two - Bloomsburg 9, Shippensburg 4

 Bloomsburg started out hot in game two with Sydney Thompson (Karthaus, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) doubling to left field in the top of the first inning. She was sent home after Wenrich blasted one to pick up her first home run of the game. The Huskies bolstered their lead in the third inning after Taylor Kranzley (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) was walked to start the bottom of the third. She advanced to third base with Schuler singling to left field. Thompson picked up an RBI after reaching on an error from the pitcher, making it 3-0. Wenrich then hit another one deep to right field, picking up an RBI single to end the third 4-0.

The Raiders started to rally in the fourth inning by almost tying it up, but were just short with a score of 4-3. They then tied it in the fifth with an RBI single. 

Bloomsburg was not defeated as Gabby Starr (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) stepped to the plate and hit a clutch 2-RBI single to bring in Wiest and Straigis, making it 6-4 at the end of the fifth. Schuler and Wenrich both homered in the bottom of the sixth to extend the lead to 9-4. The game ended after Straigis struck out the Raiders' final batter, giving the Huskies a 9-4 victory.

On the Horizon:

Bloomsburg will be back in action at Jan M. Hutchinson Field on April 14 to face the Lock Haven Bald Eagles. The doubleheader will start at 2 p.m.
