Baseball Drops Mid-Week Contest to Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Del. – The Bloomsburg baseball team dropped a non-conference road bout to Wilmington, 12-4, at Wilson Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Bloomsburg (20-13) was held to just five hits from five different batters on the day. Nathan Kress (Lansdale, Pa./La Salle College H.S.) went 1-for-2 with a two-RBI home run to the team.

Wilmington (27-12) jumped out to an early lead in the contest, taking a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a three-run homer from MJ Phillips.

The Huskies responded in the top of the third as Mike Miller (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) was hit by a pitch and Judah Miller (Halifax, Pa./Halifax) worked back an 0-2 count to a walk early in the frame.  Jeremy Cawley (Duryea, Pa./Pittston Area) drove in the first run for the maroon and gold as an error from the first baseman allowed Cawley to reach base and Mike Miller (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) to score. Judah Miller (Halifax, Pa./Halifax) was later brought home on a second Wildcats error, cutting the deficit to 3-2.

The home side scored again in the fourth, as Brayden Hostetter launched a solo home run to right field.

Wilmington surged ahead in the fifth, advancing the lead to 8-2 on four hits, a hit by pitch, a walk and a sacrifice fly.

After Anthony Trommer (Trevose, Pa./Neshaminy) reached base on a throwing error in the seventh, Kress launched his second home run over the season to right field to make it 8-4.

A bases-clearing triple in the seventh made it 11-4 for Wilmington before closing out the game with three more runs in the eight to take the 14-4 victory.

Steve Martin (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) was pinned with loss, allowing three runs on four hits in 2.2 innings. Overall, the Huskies bullpen combined for eight strikeouts on the day.

Bloomsburg returns to action on Friday, April 17 as they host Kutztown for a PSAC doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
