Softball Falls in Doubleheader to Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The Bloomsburg softball team dropped doubleheader to Kutztown.

Alizabeth Schuler (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) led the team in RBIs, recording two in game one. Josie Straigis (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) homered in game two, tallying her seventh of the season.

Game one - Bloomsburg 3, Kutztown 4

Kutztown put the first runs on the board by scoring two in the bottom of the first.

The Huskies took the lead in the top of the fifth starting with Gabby Starr (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) earning a spot on base after being hit by pitch. Taylor Welsh (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) also was hit by pitch, putting two Huskies on base. Kranzley was walked and loaded up the bases for Schuler, resulting in a 2-RBI double to center field, bringing Starr and Welsh home to tie the game 2-2. Sydney Thompson (Karthaus, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) hit an RBI-single to give Bloomsburg the lead. 

The Golden Bears tied the game 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning and was looking like the game was going to extra innings. The Huskies faced heartbreak as Kutztown hit the go-ahead run in the bottom of the seventh, ending the game 4-3.

Game two - Bloomsburg 2, Kutztown 6

Bloomsburg stuck first in the top of the first with Jenna Kaufman (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) hitting a sacrifice fly to bring in Schuler. Kutztown took back the lead in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs. 

The Golden Bears scored three more runs in the bottom of the fourth, making it a 6-1 lead. Straigis then homered in the top of the sixth to make it 6-2 in Kutztown's favor. Bloomsburg was unable to rally in the final innings and fell in game two 6-2.

On the Horizon:

Bloomsburg will be back in action to face the Millersville Marauders in an away doubleheader on April 18. Game one will start at 1 p.m.
