MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Bloomsburg softball team split their doubleheader with Millersville as the team tallied a total of 24 hits and scoring 15 runs.
The Huskies recorded six home runs on the day, two from
Allie Wenrich (Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin), two from
Josie Straigis (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe), one from
Reagan Wiest (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) and one
Carly Wywoda (Dupont, Pa./Holy Cross).
Straigis had seven total hits, four RBIs and four runs to go along with her two homers.
Game one - Bloomsburg 10, Millersville 5
The Marauders struck first in the contest by earning two runs in the bottom of the first. They kept the two-run lead until the top of the fourth where Straigis singled to left field. Wenrich advanced her to second base after being walked. Wiest singled to right field to bring Straigis in for the Huskies' first run of the game.
Taylor Welsh (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) tied the ball game up after hitting a sacrifice fly, bringing Wiest home.
Millersville came back for more in the bottom of the fourth by scoring two more runs, making it 4-2 in Millersville's favor. After
Sydney Thompson (Karthaus, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) was walked and advanced to second on
Jenna Kaufman's (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) ground out, it led her to take third from a Straigis single. Wenrich hit Thompson home on a sacrifice line out, bringing the lead to a one-run game.Â
Wiest tied the game up in the top of the sixth with a clutch home run. Bloomsburg was not finished scoring as the very next at-bat, Wywoda blasted one out of the park, taking the lead 5-4. Welsh doubled to center right after which was followed by a Kranzley walk. With two on base, Thompson singled to center, bolstering the lead to 7-4. Kaufman reached first on an infield single, advancing Thompson to third. Straigis tripled to left center, bringing home the two freshman and building the lead to 9-4. Straigis scored on a wild pitch to give Bloomsburg their final run of game one. Millersville did score in the bottom of the seventh, but the Huskies' late-game rally secured the 10-5 victory.
Game two - Bloomsburg 5, Millersville 6
Millersville scored first again in this match up an RBI triple. It was quickly combated by Straigis who homered to tie the game 1-1. Bloomsburg scored once more in the top of the fourth with Wenrich also homering, making it 2-1 in the top of the fourth.
Millersville scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth, but it was quickly thwarted by Kaufman who got an RBI on a double play. The power-hitting duo of Straigis and Wenrich then homered once more to give Bloomsburg back the lead 5-4.Â
Bloomsburg faced another heartbreak as Millersville hit a walk-off two-run homer to end the game 6-5.

The Huskies will return to Jan M. Hutchinson Field on April 21 to play Pitt-Johnstown in a doubleheader. Game one will start at 2 p.m.
