Box Score WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The Bloomsburg women's tennis team improved to 4-0 in PSAC East action with a 4-3 win over West Chester, Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Huskies clinched their spot in the PSAC Tournament and are one win closer to earning the top seed and East Title.
The Huskies claimed two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point and get off to a 1-0 match start.
Macarena Arisio (San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina/SEADEA) and
Lily Sierka (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bethel Park) defeated Sohana Thompson and Felicia Manful 6-4 at No. 3 Doubles while
Jen McDonald (Melbourne, Australia/Brentwood Secondary College) and
Lia-Sophie Seele (Mülheim, NRW, Germany/Luisenschule) clinched the point with a 7-5 win at No. 1 Doubles over Brigitte Gravelle and Delaney Tingle. The Golden Rams won 6-4 at No. 2 doubles to open the match.
Nicole Ilkovic (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy High School) gave the Huskies a 2-0 lead with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Delaney Tingle at No. 1 singles while Sierka won her second match of a the day with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles. Alexandra Cave won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 singles for West Chester to stave off match point, and Ashleigh Grooms won 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 over Seele to cut the Huskies' lead to 3-2.
McDonald clinched the match win for the Huskies with a come-back win at No. 3 singles. After dropping the first set 6-4, McDonald rebounded for a 6-3, 6-1 win in the final two sets to take the individual match and win the day for the Huskies.
Thompson closed out the match a 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 win at No. 6 singles.
The Huskies have secured their spot in the PSAC Tournament and will play for the top seed over the final two matches of the regular season. Bloomsburg hosts also undefeated East Stroudsburg on Wednesday for the Eastern division title and top seed in the East. The match is set to get underway at 3:00 p.m. from the Burt Reese Tennis Center.
