Women's Tennis Wins Thriller on Senior Day

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg women's tennis team earned a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Chestnut Hill College in non-conference match on Sunday afternoon at the Burt Reese Tennis Center.

Bloomsburg (14-5) and Chestnut Hill (5-12) battled throughout, with the match coming down to the final singles contest before the Huskies secured the win.

The Huskies claimed the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead. Nicole Ilkovic (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy High School) and Lia-Sophie Seele (Mülheim, NRW, Germany/Luisenschule) set the tone with a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, while Sarah Buck (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) and Maddie Delisio added a default victory at No. 3 to clinch the point.

Chestnut Hill responded in singles play, winning at No. 3, No. 4, to tie the match at 2-2.

Bloomsburg answered with resilience, beginning with Ilkovic at No. 1 singles. After dropping the opening set, Ilkovic rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory to give the Huskies a 3-2 lead. Chestnut Hill tied the match at 3-3 with a win at No. 5 singles.

The decisive moment came at No. 2 singles, where Lia-Sophie Seele (Mülheim, NRW, Germany/Luisenschule) delivered in dramatic fashion. Trailing 2-5 in the third set, Seele mounted a comeback, forcing a tiebreak and ultimately securing the match-clinching win, 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3), to cap the comeback victory for Bloomsburg.

The Huskies also received a default win at No. 6 singles from Buck, which proved critical in the tightly contested match.

Bloomsburg finished the regular season 14-5 overall with the win, continuing its strong play in conference action.

The Huskies get back to action on Tuesday when they host the No. 3 seed from the West, California, in the opening round of the PSAC Women's Tennis Tournament.
