Women's Tennis Takes Down Cal (Pa.) in PSAC Quarterfinals, 4-0

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg women's tennis team defeated California (Pa.), 4-0, in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) quarterfinals at the Burt Reese Tennis Center on Tuesday afternoon.
 
The Huskies started the afternoon with a back-and-forth battle in doubles competition. Dasha Nakonechna (Spain/IOC) and Nicole Ilkovic (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy High School) dominated their match at No. 2 doubles, defeating Diletta Maria Mungo and Garance Laforet 6-1. Jen McDonald (Melbourne, Australia/Brentwood Secondary College) and Lia-Sophie Seele (Mülheim, NRW, Germany/Luisenschule) fell 4-6 in the No. 1 doubles match as California (Pa.) leveled the score in doubles.
 
Lily Sierka (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bethel Park) and Macarena Arisio (San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina/SEADEA) battled to secure the doubles point for Bloomsburg, taking No. 3 doubles, 7-5, over Lilli Schreiber and Fernanda Martinez.
 
In singles action, Seele bounced back from the doubles match loss to cruise to a 6-1, 6-1, victory in the No. 2 slot. Ilkovic put the Huskies within one point of the victory with a 6-4, 6-2 win in the No. 1 singles match.
 
Sierka came up clutch for the for the maroon and gold yet again in singles play, fighting her way to a 6-2, 6-4 victory to advance the Huskies to the PSAC Semifinals with a 4-0 sweep over the Vulcans. Nakonechna (No. 3), McDonald (No. 4) and Sarah Buck (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) (No. 6) were each up one set when the match was called.
 
Bloomsburg will return to Burt Reese Tennis Center on Friday, May 1 as they look to put an end to IUP's five-year PSAC title streak.
