FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Bloomsburg men's tennis team fell to No. 2 Fairmont State, 4-0, in the opening round of the NCAA tournament to close out the 2026 season on Monday afternoon.

The Huskies fell behind early in doubles as Fairmont State's Keagan Karunagaran and Gabriel Masu defeated
Jack Seaborn (Cambridge, England/The Leys School) and
Jaime Soria (Pamplona, Spain/Liceo Monjardin) at No. 2 doubles, 6-1.

After falling behind 5-1 in No. 3 doubles,
Landon Wall (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca High School) and Alex Higuera began to mount a comeback. Defending match point at 40-15, the duo notched eight straight points brought the set to 5-3. Wall and Higuera could not fully complete the comeback, dropping the set, 6-3, as the Falcons clinched the doubles point.

Denis Dementev (Saint-Petersburg, Russia/Russian Gymnasium at the State Russian Museum) and
Sergio Dilan (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Cedin) saw their match at No 1 doubles go unfinished with the pair holding at 6-5 lead over Haruto Kusunoki and Noah Liedtke.

In singles action, the falcons took a 2-0 match lead as Dilan fell, 1-6, 3-6 in the No. 5 match. Fairmont State took another point from the No.6 singles bout as Wall dropped the match, 3-6, 3-6.

The Falcons clinched the match at No. 4 singles as Liedtke took down Soria, 6-4, 6-4, for the victory.

Similarly to the regular season bout between the two teams, the top three matches all went unfinished. In No. 1 singles, Dementev open the opening set, 6-3, before dropping the second set to Kusunoki, 6-2.

Seaborn battled closely with Gabriel Masu for the entirety of their No. 2 singles match. In the first set, the freshman bounced back from a 3-1 deficit to win four straight games and grab hold of the momentum. Seaborn took the set, 7-6, winning the tiebreak, 7-4. The Cambridge, England native was trailing, 5-4, in the second set when the match was called.

Higuera dropped the opening set at No. 3 singles, 4-6 and held on long enough for his match to go unfinished as he was behind 5-4 in the second set when his match was abandoned. Â

The Huskies ended its 2026 campaign with a 7-9 record overall and went 6-7 against Division II opponents.
