Volleyball Starts Season 2-0 After Defeating Georgian Court and Malloy 3-1

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. - The Bloomsburg volleyball team starts the season 2-0 after defeating both Georgian Court and Malloy 3-1.

Katie Kuehl (Aston, Pa./Archmere Academy (Del.)) led both teams in kills with 13 against Georgian Court and 15 against Malloy. Abigail Eagler (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) also tied Kuehl in kills with 13 against Georgian Court as well.

Sara Kokolus (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom Area) had a total of 49 assists between the two games. Clare McKenzie (Foothills County, Alberta/Holy Trinity Academy) and Eagler also shared five aces a piece in the match against Malloy.

Game one - Bloomsburg 3, Georgian Court 1

The Huskies dropped the first set as they made a late-game effort to try and take it. Being down 24-19, Bloomsburg fought back by scoring four straight points to make it 24-23. The Lions then took the victory to take set one.

The second set was a close one. The Huskies were facing another uphill battle as they were down by 19-14. Sophie Wales (Port Matilda, Pa./State College) and Kuehl brought the Huskies back with a pair of kills, and error by the Lions and an ace coming from Hannah Au (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) brought the lead to 19-18. The match was tied 20-20 until Georgian Court started to pull away at 22-20. The Huskies again fought back to tie the game 22-22. The Huskies pulled away this time, needing just one more point to win the set. Georgian Court tied it once more 24-24. The Huskies then took the second set 26-24.

Bloomsburg dominated the third set by leading by as much as 18-11 at one point. The Huskies won their second set of the match 25-17.

The fourth and final set was much closer. The game was tied at 21-21. Both teams scored, making it 22-22. The Huskies pulled away some to make it 24-22. With the Lions making one final score, the Huskies won the set 25-23 and the match 3-1.

Game two - Bloomsburg 3, Malloy 1

This match was similar to the first as the Huskies faced a 0-1 deficit as Malloy won 25-16. 

The Huskies were not finished as the played in a tightly contested as the Huskies once again won on a comeback. Malloy was up 24-19, but Bloomsburg scored five straight points to tie the game 24-24 with three consecutive aces from McKenzie. Malloy scored to make it 25-24, but after an attack error, Bloomsburg was back in it with a tie. The Huskies then scored the final two points to win the second match 27-25.

The third match was is Bloomsburg's favor as they took the set 25-21 after scoring five straight points to put themselves up 23-18 at one point.

Bloomsburg won the fourth and final set handedly with 25-14 final. Eagler dominated this set with three kills and two aces to give Bloomsburg their second victory of the season.

On the Horizon:

Bloomsburg will take on Wayne State and Queens College on Aug. 29 in Queens, New York. Game one will be at noon while game two will be at 2 p.m.
