BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg men's soccer team came away with a 1-1 draw in the dying moments against Lock Haven Saturday afternoon.
The Huskies (4-2-1) found an early first goal from
Drew Hollida (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) to take hold of the match for good, not relenting in their effort or relinquishing any chance of conceding a goal against the Falcons (0-4-2). The tenacity would pay off in the second half with three more added to the final total to come away with a 4-0 win.
The Huskies finished the night with a 16-8 advantage in shots and a 9-3 edge in corners.
How It Happened:
Bloomsburg took control of the tempo from the outset, maintaining much of the early possession and tasked with breaking down Lackawanna's defensive shape. The early signs of a breakthrough showed in the Huskies' ability to draw corners at the beginning of the match. Bloomsburg drew three kicks from the corner flag inside the first 10 minutes of the contest, with the third proving to be the charm, setting the stage for the game's opening goal. A Falcon defender headed away the initial delivery from
Caleb Sitler (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra), but only far enough to Hollida. Outside the 18-yard box, the defender lined up an effort on the volley that sizzled into the goal and put the Huskies up 1-0.
The Huskies had moments of brilliance as the match progressed, with several moments of creativity coming up just a finish short of an added goal. With the accumulation of narrow misses, it was only a matter of time until Bloomsburg found the means to double its advantage.
Logan Savage (Bensalem, Pa./Archbishop Wood) started the action leading to a goal with a cross that went over the head of his intended target, forcing play to be recycled on the opposite wing. After another cross by the Huskies was redirected from inside the 18-yard box, Savage lay in wait, delivering the second goal with a bouncing, low-driven effort into the bottom corner to double the lead.
The corner kick would be Bloomsburg's weapon of choice for the remainder of the night, getting its final two added to the scoreboard thanks to deliveries from the flag.
Alex Hess (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Oyster Bay) sent his delivery off his right foot and directly to
Logan Coone (Mars, Pa./Mars Area), whose header challenged the goalkeeper and forced the ball to be spilled inside the six-yard box. On clean-up duty was
Jace Black (Altoona, Pa./Altoona), who found himself in perfect position to ram the ball over the line before the goalkeeper could recover. The final goal of the night would come from a mistake by the Falcons via an own goal.
Sam Palmer (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) played in a ball from the Huskies' final corner of the night inside the final two minutes. The ball aimed for the back post trickled in over the line after redirecting off the leg of a Falcon defender, with the goalkeeper in a precarious position after making a leaping effort toward the service.

The Huskies jump pack into PSAC East action with a trip down to West Chester on Saturday, September 19, at 2:30 p.m. to take on the Golden Rams.
