Redshirt junior Trevor Allard finished seventh at the 56th annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships on December 29 and 30 and then helped the wrestling team earn its first dual victory of the season with a 21-14 win over Hofstra on January 4. At the prestigious Midlands Championships, Allard was immediately sent to the consolation bracket as he dropped a 6-5 decision to Ohio State's Gavin Hoffman. The Huskies' grappler went on a roll from there, however, as he rattled off four consecutive victories. He started with an 8-3 decision over Harvard's Clifton Wang and then posted his first pin of the season when he took down Illinois' Zach Braunagel with 17 seconds left in overtime. Allard followed with a 9-3 decision over Peter Acciardi of Buffalo and an 11-1 major decision over Bob Coleman of Oregon State. In the seventh round of the consolation bracket, Allard again met Hoffman and, again, suffered a hard-fought one-point loss - this time a 3-2 decision. Allard finished off the tournament with a 6-3 decision over Purdue's Thomas Penola to earn the seventh-place result. Against Hofstra, Allard was pitted against Trey Rogers in the 184-pound bout. He fell behind, 4-3, late in the third before coming up with an escape and a takedown with six seconds left to help the Huskies to their first win of the year. Allard has a team-high 16 wins and is 16-9 overall on the year.
