Preski and Walczuk Lift Huskies Past Lady Raiders, 2-0

BLOOMSBURG – Katie Walczuk (Long Valley, NJ, West Morris Central) iced the match with her team-leading seventh goal of the season as the Bloomsburg University women's soccer team defeated Shippensburg, 2-0, Saturday night in PSAC action.

During the first 12 minutes of play in the first half, the Huskies were able to outshoot the Lady Raiders 3-0.

Bloomsburg (7-2-2, 6-2-1 PSAC) finally did get on the board at the 16:30 mark when Kristine Preski (Philadelphia, Owen J. Roberts) took the shot on a free kick from the top of the circle and beat Shippensburg goalkeeper Megan Delio top shelf, making it 1-0 Huskies.

Shippensburg (8-4-1, 5-4-0 PSAC) did have a chance to tie the match just eight minutes later at the 24:07 mark when Rachel Hess airmailed a shot that hit the crossbar and over the top of the net to keep the score at 1-0 going into the half.

The Lady Raiders held a 3-1 shots on goal edge for the last 28:30 of the half.

In the second half, Bloomsburg had a golden opportunity to take a commanding 2-0 lead when Lauren Stedman (Garnet Valley, Garnet Valley) took a shot that hit the crossbar and sailed high, keeping the match still at 1-0 BU.

Walczuk made the score 2-0 with her fancy header that put the game out of reach.

Preski started the play with a long shot that hit the crossbar, but came back into play. Backup goalkeeper Shelbie Rackley tried to get her hands on the ball, but was only able to get a fingertip on it. Walczuk saw the ball bounce on the turf right in front of the net one time and was then able to head the ball past Rackley.

The Lady Raiders did not take a shot on goal for the remainder of the game, giving the Huskies its second win in its last three contests.

Bloomsburg goalkeeper Frances Nicoletti (Haddonfield, NJ, Haddonfield) stopped four shots on net, giving her five shutouts on the year.

The Huskies held a 13-7 shots and a 7-4 corner kicks advantage on the evening.

Delio made four saves while Rackley stopped two BU shots.

The Huskies return back to Sports Stadium on Tuesday afternoon to host IUP for a 5 p.m. start.
