Huskies Drop PSAC Quarterfinal Match To Slippery Rock, 2-1

Box Score

BLOOMSBURG – Kristine Preski (Philadelphia, Owen J. Roberts)scored and put the Huskies up 1-0 early, but Slippery Rock scored two unanswered goals en route to a 2-1 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) quarterfinal match at Sports Stadium Tuesday afternoon.

The loss eliminates Bloomsburg from the final four round of the PSAC playoffs.

Through the first 19 minutes of action in the first half, it was a battle of the defenses, as each team recorded just one shot on goal. Slippery Rock's Ashley Paganie fired a shot at Bloomsburg goalkeeper Frances Nicoletti (Haddonfield, NJ, Haddonfield), but Nicoletti was able to make the save. Kelsey Stoka (Langhorne, Neshaminy) tried to give the Huskies an early 1-0 lead at the 18:11 mark, but SRU goalkeeper Dana O'Neill made the save.

Preski gave the Huskies a 1-0 advantage at 19:38 in the first half, as she took aim at the net from 15 yards out and posted her fifth goal of the season into the left corner of the net past O'Neill.

The next shot from either team was at the 28:41 mark, as Danielle Turner netted her third goal of the season on the assist from Rachel Knapp.

Knapp took the corner kick and placed the shot in the box right in front of Nicoletti. As both teams scrambled for the ball, Turner pushed the ball into the bottom right corner to deadlock the match at 1-1.

Both teams had chances to regain the lead early on in the second half, but Nicoletti and O'Neill came up with big stops.

At 56:16, Preski tried to tally her second goal of the game, but O'Neill stopped the shot from getting past her.

The Rock's Allison Hindley tried to head the ball past Nicoletti at 59:35, but the game still stayed tied.

Katie Walczuk (Long Valley, NJ, West Morris Central) had a golden opportunity at 64:02 to put the Huskies up when she tried to go top shelf into the net, but she airmailed her shot up and over the post.

Nicoletti stopped an Alyssa Barrett shot at 66:37, but was not as lucky as Turner gave SRU the 2-1 lead with her second goal of the game at the 67:19 mark, this one coming on a breakaway that was put in on a left-foot kick into the bottom right corner.

The Huskies took one more shot on goal when Aimee Bux (Pottstown, Owen J. Roberts) tried to tie the match, but O'Neill came up with the save.

Both teams tallied nine shots apiece as Bloomsburg held the 6-3 corner kick advantage.

Nicoletti made three saves on the afternoon, as O'Neill stopped four BU shots.

Bloomsburg (12-4-3) will await word on a possible NCAA playoff berth. The pairings will be announced on Monday, Nov. 8.
