LEWISBURG--The Bloomsburg University women's indoor track and field team began its 2010-2011 campaign by competing at the Bison Opener hosted by Bucknell University. Seven Huskies posted performances worthy of qualification at February's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships hosted by Edinboro University.
Ashley Mancil (Bloomsburg, Bloomsburg) had a stellar day, breaking her own school record in the Pole Vault by clearing 3.15m (10' 4"). In doing so, the senior edged her previous BU best mark of 10', set earlier this calendar year. Teammate
Kelsey Davis (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) (Bloomsburg , Central Columbia ) succeeded on her attempt at 3.00m (9'10"), as both punched their tickets to Edinboro with their leaps.
A foursome of harriers were top performers in the 5,000m run.
Angela Borealo (Easton, Easton) led the way for the Huskies, finishing in second place with a time of 17:50.84.
Katie Filemyr (Willow Grove, Bishop McDevitt) took fourth in the event (18:48.39),
Katie Meck (Dillsburg, Northern) placed fifth (18:54.29), and
Samantha Matthews (Windsor, Glenelg) finished just behind in sixth place (18:56.43). All four qualified for the PSAC event, handily beating out the league standard of 19:24.00.
The final women's PSAC qualifer was
Jessica Segeleon (Bridgeville, South Fayette), who completed the 800m run in a time of 2:27.49 to secure a spot in the conference event.
On Friday, December 10, Bloomsburg will travel to Lehigh University for the
Fast Times before Finals event, which will be the team's final competition before their winter break and training season.
